Hi Doug Re your mail Yes It looks correct I checked my list and I found the Weeks PINCOTT marriage looked wrong I have Mary STINCHCOMBE of Feb 1729 Married to Samuel DYER 25 Feb 1759 this is confirmed in the Will of Mary's brother Nathaniel And I have Mary of 18 June 1723 married to Weeks PINCOTT. All is not lost as Marys Father Nicholas and mother Sarah SMART are my 7x great grandparents does that make me me a THOMPSON cousin 786 times removed? an easy mistake to make as I have over 30 mary STINHCOMBE's I would be pleased If you could tell me who Marys Grandfather was now that is a puzzel? To all THOMPSON researchers on the Samuel THOMPSON / Jane PINCOT line I don't know about you but I have had (till tonight!) the wife of Weeks PINCOT as being Mary STINCHCOMB, daughter of Nathaniel STINCHCOMB and Deborah RODWAY. No longer! The Mary above was christened 8 February 1729 and I have always kept a note "She may be the daughter of Nicholas STINCHCOMB christened 18/6/1723" Looking at Bigland's Monumental Inscriptions tonight I see he has, in Hawkesbury churchyard, the grave of "Mary, Wife of Weeks Pincot, died 6 April 1774 aged 50." This ties in her age (precisely!) to the older Mary. We have to lose the long believed RODWAY line (bye bye to cousin-for-a-while Rob Millard!) and revise the STINCHCOMB line. I knew that would grab your attention. Whilst idly browsing last night and feeling rather thirsty, I had a look at www.gloucestershirepubs.co.uk . If you already know the site, forgive me, but if you don't its a mine of information about pub owners, landlords, tenants over the years, including directory entries. Its searchable and will give you lots of references to Hawkesbury. I also searched for WATTS. As an example, I found that the pub at Inglestone Common, Nr Hawkesbury was run by S. WATTS in 1856. and that Mrs S WATTS (?the same person) was at the Crown Inn, High St, Wickwar in 1885. For the SHIPP collector, J SHIPP was at the Codrington Arms, near Yate (which is still trading) in 1856 and, also in 1856, R N SHIPP was at the New Inn, High St, Wickwar. Hope this helps somebody Cheerio Carole PS thanks to Ronda for the WATTS references in Wilts.

Can the CHAPPELL researchers confirm this Martha as part of their line? If so, is WOODMAN a family name carried down from the CHAPPELL lineage? How about the LATHOM name; is it carried down from CHAPPELL? Who was really born where? Was William WEEKS b. Sherston and Martha CHAPPEL b. Bagpath as related in the census OR was Martha CHAPPEL b. Sherston and William WICKS was "of Hawkesbury" (for whatever that means! LOL) Were John ROBBINS and Thomas WHITTERN relatives and if so, to whom? William or Martha? As usual, I am looking forward to anyone's input regarding this little riddle! :>) All the best, Ronda WICKS (Woodstock, Ontario, Canada)

My thanks to Marilyn & Anne for the information on Wortley. I had a look at the OS maps site www.old-maps.co.uk which has maps from 1887 of the Wortley/Alderley area. It shows a number of mills in the area but, try as I will, I cannot manage to print the map - only the extreme left hand side of it. Does anyone know how I can improve on this? I recommend the site if you have not already found it. Carole Sharp
Hi Barbara I was aware of the Ship name cropping up fairly regularly when looking through Bitton parish baptism entries circa 1800 - 1825. A Charles Ship was a long standing parish clerk there in the early 19th century and is "mentioned in despatches" for these services in one of the books written by the parish vicar Rev Ellacombe, who was an historian who wrote a couple of books about the history of Bitton parish. Volunteers downloaded 50 events at a time in sequence from given batch numbers. These were then sent to me unaltered. Next I imported them into my "favourite" family tree software program which cost £9.99 and has extremely few features. The program is Sierra's Easy Family Tree. One of the best things about it is the fact that I can see a couples information and 20+ children and the parents of each on screen at the same time. That is 3 generations on one screen. This cheap program has the ability to export as a spreadsheet file. The hardest part was importing the gedcoms into the programs. Extremely tedious and repetitive and I had to start again 3 or 4 times. Geoffro

A big thank you to Geoffro and all those who helped with downloading the information from the IGI and converting it to Excel format. It will be a big help to all of us, and particularly impressive to those of us who still don't understand how you did it. How easy is it?, and is there any intention of doing the same for other parishes? (I'm thinking of Horton) Bob Lawrence *************************************************** R.P. & A.L. Firstly many thanks to all those who helped in downloading the gedcoms that have enabled the creation of the spreadsheet file. The URL for you to download the spreadsheet from is towards the end of this mail. It is almost 3MB in size and at this stage is only avaialable in excel. Conversions to earlier versions of excel and conversions to other file formats will follow at a later date. Included are All the entries for C044621 the Hillesley Street Baptist Church. All the entries for C036121 for St Mary's. The first 5000 entries for C036122 from St Marys.....up to somewhere in the W entries. Unfortunately it will only give us the first 5000 entries. Also included are all the marriages on M036121 and 2. You will see that each marriage is recorded twice. There is nothing I could do about this. Well there is but it would take far too long so I havent. Remember it is only a guide. However do use the find commands especially to look for those middle names. There are some wonderful mistranscriptions as well such aas SHINCHCOMBE.
