    3. OK - I'm not the most knowledgable on this family but I'll start- The Jenkinson's owned a lot of Hawkesbury - in other words the local "gentry" along with the Beauforts. The family includes Robert Banks Jenkinson aka Lord Liverpool one time Prime Minister during the Napoleonic Wars. He was born in London in 1770, and according to the web page I read, he died on 4 December 1828 at Coombe House, Kingston upon Thames. That means there is a lot known about the family but conversely it may be more difficult to use the "easy" internet searches - as many were likely to have been born in other family homes - in London for example. I did a quick web search using www.google.com just now and turned up some potted biographies of the man - some have addresses which might help locate other Jenkinson homes - they might give you some clues - certainly some background into the family. What I do know is that apart from Hawkesbury, they also married into the KINGSCOTT family of Kingscotte - about 6 miles away (close to Tetbury) - there are family graves in Kingscotte churchyard. 3. Hello Folks, Thanks to all concerned for news of SMART families of Hillesley/Tasmania. The m of Sarah,1722 is in my line, but have only recently tried to progress it;have found an assortment of clues that suggest family has been in the area as long as most:- the 1522 Muster(Hoyle) has a Thos Smert at Tormarton' a male m at Badminton,1587,and I think there is a Smart on tenants list there c1708 The Hale of Alderly papers at CRO has title deeds at Hawkesbury,1699 involving cottages called Smart's Tenement-do we know of these? OK,there are a few gaps to fill! ----project for next year maybe I agree with the lineage given for Sarah Stinchcombe,b1833 and think she is a descendent of the 17c clothier branch keep hunting, john stinchcombe

    3. We now have 88 members on our little list. A figure which is more than double what I expected we would reach in total. Newest list member is Pam ROBINSON who is descended from the STAFFORD and TUCK families which is extremely opportune as she will be able to tell us what she knows of George TUCK who was christened about 1865. As I recall Pam used to work in a local authority housing department. What you may not know is that the Pond Dipper is a Certificated member of The Chartered Institute of Housing and was yesterday elected as the chair of the Gloucestershire and Severnside Tenants network. Anyway enough of the boring stuff. There will be 23 of us sitting down to Xmas dinner at the Beaufort next Saturday. Mr and Mrs P will unfortunately be in the pub on Friday evening and from 11am on Saturday morning (until we get kicked out). Even if you cant make the dinner it would be great to see you at some point during the weekend. Anonymous Anne has already claimed a seat next to me. Whilst chatting to Liz JACK of GFHS yesterday she was telling me of a couple of non net reserarchers with Hawkesbury connections. Both were unknown to me. One is descended from a RODWAY/NIBLETT union and the other I think has a FISHLOCK connection. I will post more details when I get them. I should be able to spend more time with you now as Ed TILY is fianlly able to take over the running of the GLS list again. talk soon geoffro

    3. Hi all I had come across Six Cottages/Jerusalem when I did some transcribing for the 1881 census many moons ago and asked my grandfather about it. He'd never heard of the cottages as anything but Six cottages so sorry can't help on that one. Great grandfather George Tuck was born in 1863. His mother Caroline was unmarried at the time though she married George Deacon some 6 years later. I have not tried to find out who his father was yet. Perhaps someone out there could give me some ideas on that. Caroline Tuck's parents were Thomas Tuck & Priscilla Summers, Robert Tuck who married Harriet Cooper Thompson was a brother of Thomas. 3. Hi Kaye Thanks for the response, Anthony SMART & Sarah (Nee STINCHCOMBE) SMART are definitely relations, I also have confirmed that they came on the James Baines in 1855 as unassisted immigrants (and a copy of the Argus reporting on the arrival). The name of infant with them was William Henry SMART he married Mary Anne HAY they had the following children William Henry, Isabel Maud, Albert George and Frederick Benjamin, Sarah Elizabeth and Florence SMART. The following data is from a secondary source but I believe the person is a researcher in England: Anthony SMART was born 8 May 1825, death 16 March 1896 in Burnie Tasmania Sarah STINCHCOMBE was born 3 February 1833, death Mt Hicks Tasmania (no date yet) father and mother of Anthony SMART William SMART born 8 June 1794 Mary CORNWALL father and mother of William SMART Nathaniel SMART born 27 January 1751 Alice MALLARD father and mother of Nathaniel SMART Nathaniel SMART born 1720 Mary SMART In relation to Henry SMART he seems to be a brother of Anthony SMART but I don`t have any details on him. In relation to Sarah STINCHCOMBE I actually have a picture of her when she was about 80 years old with all her children behind at Lower Mt Hicks Tasmania. I don't know when she died, But here parents were Benjamin (born 28 March 1802) and Mary STINCHCOMBE Their parents were John and Mary STINCHCOMBE. 3. Hi Nicola, You won't know of the Great Crash of Xmas 1999 when The Pond Dipper very intelligently bought an external CD Writer and then promptly deleted years of work. Not all of that work has been recreated yet. Listers occasionally hear me refer to The Green Filing Cabinet which is where all my bits of paper are thrown (other people file things). Somewhere in there are further details of the TUCK family. >From memory ( helped by cousin Bob) Robert TUCK married Harriet COOPER THOMPSON and there were a number of children. Memory also tells me that the TUCKs and the STAFFORD families are linked. Are you in contact with Pam ROBINSON. I think also that one of the TUCKs appears on one of the COOPER wills. Who were George's parents ? Did his father have siblings ? I note you refer to "Six Cottages"....did you know these were once called "Little Jerusalem" ? If you knew this could you enlighten me and others as to why ? I am wondering if we know your living village relatives ? Perhaps we have supped with them in The Beaufort ? Geoffro
