    3. Hi All I'll start again Evan STINCHCOMBE married Lucy BAKER at Hawkesbury, Lucy was the daughter of Edwin Jesse BAKER and Mary Ann WATTS married 23 July 1881,Mary Ann said she was born at Hawkesbury, the marriage cert says she is 22 in 1881. In 1891 they lived at Tresham but had been at Horton from 1885-1890 I have traced Edwin who likes to call himself Jesse and does not age from 1891-1901 (good trick that) but I can not find Mary Ann WATTS. As Carole said there are a couple of Mary Ann WATTS about, one b,1833 and the other b,1847 but this one is 1859 another clue is Evan had a child named Maurice the first time I came across this name in the STINCHCOMBE family but a common name in the WATTS family I also think there is a Horton connection here? Evan was the son of Thomas STINCHCOMBE and Lucy Annie BLAKEN daughter of Charles of Hawkesbury common his first wife, they had 3 children Evan, Clara Ann, and Beatrice, he secondly married Sarah Ann TANDY,they had 7 children Bertha Mabel, Andrew,Mildred Ethel, Ivy Olive, Violet May, Reginald Wilfred and Vera Gladys, Thomas STINCHCOMBE was the son of Joseph S and Mary Jane DEACON his birth cert says he was born at "Waterloo" Hawkesbury has anyone come across this place before its located somewhere on Hawkesbury common. regards Robert Visit my web pages at http://www.btinternet.com/~ra.millard/index.htm --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    3. On the 1881 and 1901 census, I have recently come across an Ellen, born about 1831/32 in Hawkesbury Upton, married to Joseph ENGLISH, with son James ENGLISH (born about 1860), living in Lea, near Malmesbury. I haven't come across a marriage for this Ellen and Joseph yet, but it's a possibility that she is Ellen TEAGLE, born May 1831 in Hawkesbury Upton, daughter of Thomas TEAGLE and his first wife Ruth (daughter of John PRITCHARD and Patience CHAPPEL). Ellen TEAGLE is not on the 1841 or 51 censuses with her father Thomas and his second wife Ann in Hillesley, but as Ellen's mother died in childbirth, it's probable that she was raised elsewhere by her mothers's family. But it is known that Ellen TEAGLE had a son in 1858 who in later life retired to live in Lea, nr Malmesbury, hence the possibility that Ellen ENGLISH might be Ellen TEAGLE. Before following this up, does anyone else lay claim to this Ellen ENGLISH in Lea in their family or know of another Ellen born about 1831/2 in Hawkesbury that this could be. 3. Hi Robert and All I had a look at the 1891 & 1901 census entries on Robert's Wonderful webpages and found Edwin /Jesse and his wife Mary age 36 and 32 respectively on both censuses. As you say, Robert, good trick that - think i'll try it too. Wouldn't they would have been too young to have had a daughter who married in 1881 I couldn't find Edwin Jesse BAKER and his wife Mary Ann on the 1881 census. but there is a Mary A. BAKER, Widow, pauper age 64, born Avening, living at High St Upton with her son Jesse BAKER age 26 Ag Lab, also born Avening. Also a Lucy BAKER age 17 born Hawkesbury Upton is a servant to Joseph HARDING and family, Primitive Methodist Minisiter, living at Middle St, Stroud. Is this the Lucy who married Evan STINCHCOMBE? So are you looking for a Mary Ann WATTS who married Edwin Baker the son,or the father? I have 2 Mary Ann WATTS seeking a husband. One is the daughter of William WATTS & Elizabeth nee GULWELL bapt. April 21 1833. The other was born about 1847, daughter of Lewis WATTS and his wife Mary. There are several Mary WATTS who might also fit the bill. 3. G'day Steve, The FreeCEN site is doing a progressive roll-out to avoid the infamous 1901 census online debacle. Eventually all areas will have access but by rolling out progressively, it keeps the server load to a manageable level. Given that the servers are being provided free by Rootsweb.com, safeguarding their servers has to have high priority. Hope you get access soon (I had a preview peek some weeks ago and I was reasonable happy with it). Bear in mind that the web site will only have those pieces that have been transcribed thus far. There is heaps more work to be transcribed and the project will need more volunteers for several years to come. 3. I've used the new FreeCen search facility over the last couple of days from Cardiff without any problems. It's excellent and very easy to use, though the data on line at present is mostly just the 1841 and 1891 censuses covering parishes in Devon and Cornwall, though there are a few others. Fortunately it turned out that it was the 1891 census for the Plymouth area that I wanted, and found three families on my mother's side within minutes, which would have taken many hours of searching manually as I didn't know the parish (in fact I had assumed they would be in Cornwall, not Devon, so would have gone to the wrong County Record Office). Once more is on-line, this will be a very useful facility. 1. Re: [HWK] the COLLINS family
    2. COLLINS is a common name of course, but I'm trying to come down the line from a William COLLINS, who died in Thornbury in 1724. I have details of two of his sons: 1) John was born in about 1683. Like his father he is described in his will as a "yeoman of Eastwood". He married Mary (surname unknown), by whom he had five children: William, born before 1731, John, Thomas, Mary and Jane, all born after 1731. All four were alive when John wrote his will in 1752, the younger four being still under twenty-one, but nothing further is known of them yet. John died the following year, aged sixty-nine, and was buried on 4 June. 2) William was born in 1689, and (probably) baptized at Cromhall on 24 September. He married Sarah GAZARD at Thornbury on 24 February 1717, and they had at least three children: John, born in 1717/8, Betty (date unknown) and Mary, probably baptized in 1732. According to his will, William was "of Falfield & Berkeley" and owned lands at Cromhall & Berkeley. His wife had died before he wrote his will in 1741. William's date of death is unknown, however, because his will was not proved until 1787. Always glad of further titbits. John Partington
