    3. Hello Nick Pleased to meet you. I am descended from Sarah Jane WATTS, b Starveall 1854 - c 1947, daughter of John WATTS (b bef 7 Oct 1821) and Hannah PAINTER (b abt 1823 Saddlewood), which makes us some sort of cousins i guess, with the same 3 x great grandfather. Sarah Jane was the first child of the marriage of John and Hannah, but I have yet to establish if there were any further children. There is a distinct possibility that Hannah may have had children before the marriage too. I have had enormous help from Carole Sharpe who has filled me in on all sorts of Watts details including John's siblings. Which one are you descended from? Afraid I can't help on the George WATTS query. Regards Liz

    2. Hello all researching PAINTER and WATTS back in late August! I was very interested to learn about Hannah and John WATTS family. I have all of John WATTS and Jane PRITCHARD's children as John senior is my 3x great grand father. I would be interested though if anyone can find George WATTS baptised 8 Jan 1837 son of John and Jane WATTS of Hilcot in the 1861 census of the area. Regards Nick

    2. Hi Patsy, Interesting. I have to confess I haven't done much with Browns either. I have a Wilts. ancestor b. 1811 in Dublin but am pretty certain her parents were born and married in Salisbury. The reason I mention this is that it may be worth your investigating a military link. There seem to quite a few English troops stationed in Ireland round about that time (that is gut feel rather than based on researched fact. > BROWN: > Some of the Witchells married "Browns"..... both in our line and others. > Unfortunately I have not made many strides in researching the name. > > William Witchell b. 3. This is a bit of a long-shot, but I am wondering if anyone has in their tree a Helen Florence Phipps born about 1901 in the Stroud area of Gloucestershire. I have been searching for some time believing my step grandmothers name was Florence Phipps, but have been told by an elderly relative that it was in fact Helen - and sure enough there is a Helen Florence Phipps listed on the BDM website, but before I go exploring this route am interested if anyone else might have some info first. Researching relatives of the CORNOCK Family from North Nibley and the HUXLEY family from Evesham. Interested in exchanging information with any one who might have these names in there trees as well. Kind Regards Lawrence

    3. Hi Robert, Thank you for that. My Witchell's from Tetbury originated with John Witchell who married Ann Boyds 9 Aug 1713 in Long Newnton. I link into Witchell's in Yatton Keynell, in Didmarton, in Nympsfield, in Cam, in Sopworth. My own Warn family were brewers in Tetbury and married twice into the Witchell brewing family also of Tetbury. I have links to the Millard family in Avening and to the Hinton, Edwards, Butler families in Tetbury. The Witchell's link into the Ind, Morse and Clutterbuck families. I host the Tetbury List, the Warne List and the Witchell Board. I am attempting to link all the Witchell's in GLS and WIL. So far all those who have contacted me about the Witchell family seem to link back to the 1713 Long Newnton marriage. The most famous Witchell was probably Edwin Witchell who married Caroline Clutterbuck. He was a well known amateur geologist. Regards Phil. 3. Hi All, I have an interest in the Witchell surname, mostly in GLS but also in WIL as it overlaps with my own Warnies (the surnames Warn[e] and Wearn[e] ) for which I am the certifiable GoONS member. <grin> I went to the web pages and tried to register my surname interests there. Despite multiple attempts there appears to be a broken link as the form submission button depression led to the dreaded "404" error loved by us all <eg> Have these pages no longer got a maintainer? Was this a transient error? I see the Pond Dipper himself has a Witchell interest. If any one can help it would be most welcome. Regards Phil.
