Hello Everyone. Could anyone tell me where I can find any court records for Gloucestershire. I am looking for a JOSEPH POWDERHILL, a Butcher from Winchcombe, I believe he was aged 48, and was a "prisoner on remand" at Gloucester prison in October 1858. I have a number ( Q/Gc6/3 ) but dont know what that is. If anyone can help I would be very Grateful, and it's nice to get some interesting details for the family tree. Regards, John
Hi John > I am looking for a JOSEPH POWDERHILL, a Butcher from Winchcombe, I believe > he was aged 48, and was a "prisoner on remand" at Gloucester prison in > October 1858. > Follow this link to Gloucester Record Office: Gloucestershire County Council: Record Office or http://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=1348 If you search their Genealogical database you will probably find a record of your Joseph POWDERHILL. Make a note of the reference of the entry. You can then download an orderform and order up a photocopy of the relevant entry. Details of cost etc. are also shown on the Web Site. This is a very useful site to know about. Good hunting Sue Sissons Hemel Hempstead
Robert The three sisters look good. The family of John NEALE and Nancy CORBETT had a Mary, Sarah and Ann of just these ages. On the other hand, this would mean the Mary married to William Winbow was NOT of this family! UNLESS she had for some reason reverted to using her family name after William died. (Possibly in 1834) From Beavington's transcription that I have it's not clear whether Mary is unmarried or a widaw. This makes another connection which needs a bit of thinking over. ROBERT NEALE SHIPP b.1810. His Neale connection was through his Mother SARAH NEALE b.1790 whose parents were JOHN NEALE of Yate b.1762 & NANCY CORBETT. Cynthia Many thanks for this. I'd heard about the accident before - the tram driver was my grandfather! Robert She is Elizabeth Thompson, born in Stroud ca 1780. She is not "one of ours" as far as I can see. (James and Elizabeth occur on the 1851 Hawkesbury census aged 75 and 70.)
