Hi Carole., Don't know if this helps or not but for your information in the Will of Daniel ALLEN of Hawkesbury proven at London 31st MaY 1824 (transcript of which I submitted to Roberts site) he mentions his grandchildren: Allen., Mary Maria., James., DAvid., John and a male infant unbaptized as far as he knew GOULTER the children of his late bereaved daughter Sarah the wife of James GOULTER of Acton Turville. 3. Hi Patricia, Thanks for that. John Goulter is from Acton Turville, according to the 1851 & 1861 censuses, born about 1819.so possibly the young John you mention. In 1851 John GOULTER was at Upton, married to Ann age 32 (born about 1819 Horton). He was a widower when he married Eliza COOK in 1855.. Sarah ALLEN married James GOULTER 2 May 1811, Banns at Hawkesbury (but I expect you already know this)! Best wishes Carole

    3. Hello Brian, Thanks for your response which takes me much further down the Cook family than I have attempted. In tracing the Hawker family, I came across 3 daughters of Joseph Cook, and was curious to know more about him. What I have, as follows, has some variations from your info. Joseph Cook b Jun 1781 Hawkesbury (parents John Cook & Anna Rodway) m Feb 1813 Mary Niblett ( b May 1792 Hawkesbury Upton) Children 1 Elizabeth b 1818 2 Mary b apr 1820 m 1840 Joseph Isaac. Their daughter Anne married John Hawker. 3 Peter b Aug 1823 4 Drusilla b Apr 1828 m 1848 William Hawker b1824 5 Ann b Jun 1830 6 John b Jan 1833 7 Sarah b Aug 1835 m 1861 James Limbrick. Their daughter Jane Clare married Herbert Enoch Hawker. I have come across the marriage of a Joseph Cook to Mary Rannols (?Reynolds) but haven't found any offspring following that date in Hawkesbury. Also unless it is a typing error if she was born 1793 she was young to marry in 1804 I am fairly sure of the info as it affects the Hawker tree. If you know of any discrepancies I should be only too glad to know. Regards, Keith Marshall

    3. Hi Trevor We can probably norrow the choices of John WALKERS down to 2 John son of Benjamin b,20 Oct 1661 and John son of William b,Apr 1669 both at Hawkesbury the marriage register does not give any clue and it seems both John and Ellinor nee COOK are of Hawkesbury we also have another John who features in the Portman papers but he seems not to be married although we can't be certain. I think the best hope of proceeding would be with Wills there may well be a clue, A will exists for 2 Benjamin WALKERS of Acton Turville the WALKERS are known to have worked on the Beaufort estates over many generations so there could well be a connection with Acton Turville. regards Robert Visit my web pages at http://www.hawkesburyhistory.co.uk ----- Original Message ----- From: "tflake" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, December 06, 2003 7:01 PM Subject: [HWK] John WALKER and Ellinor COOK > John WALKER and Ellinor COOK married Hawkesbury 31 March 1689. > > Does anyone have a clue as to which John Walker and which Ellinor Cook? 1. [HWK] Badminton Muniments; Boteler/Hancock/Neale
    2. Gifford, Paul
    3. Does anyone know whether a detailed list or abstract of the Badminton muniments at the Gloucestershire Record Office exists somewhere, such as the Portman Papers that exists on Robert Millard's website? The record of the collection at Access to Archives (www.a2a.org.uk) shows a lot of Hawkesbury documents. I'm particularly interested in determining whether there might be anything that would document Silvester, wife of Henry Neale, of Little Badminton/Hawkesbury (born perhaps about 1565, died 1657 at Sherston). William Boteler, Esq., of Great Badminton (Lord of the manors of Hawkesbury, Great and Little Badminton), married Silvester Gyes (who was probably born about 1515) and, according to the Visitation of Gloucestershire, 1623, their daughter Dorothy married ---- Hancock. John and Dorothy Hancock appear on the survey of Upton in the Portman Papers list. I haven't found a will for John Hancock (and I've looked at all the wills for the various John Hancocks in Gloucestershire for this period), so I think he died intestate. It would make sense that John and Dorothy Hancock may have held some of Boteler's land. If he died intestate, it would have been split among his children. One of these could be Richard Hancock (d. 1649, if I have the date right), of Upton. Another could be Silvester, wife of Henry Neale, some of whose land bordered Hancock land. Silvester Neale had a daughter Dorothy, born about 1590, who married Richard Francklyn, of Sherston Magna. The will of William Boteler, Esq., (d. 1586), son of the above William Boteler, gives bequests to various brothers, but unfortunately not to the Hancocks. Dorothy Boteler would probably have been born around 1540. The survey in the Portman Papers shows that their heir was Henry Hancock, but he must have died young, as I haven't found any further record. Silvester, wife of Henry Neale, would have been the right age to be Dorothy's daughter. Conceivably Richard Hancock, born say about 1580, could have been Dorothy's child as well. The other question I would like to know something about is whether the manorial custom in or around Hawkesbury was for daughters to receive land upon marriage. Paul Gifford

JOHN WITCHELL was the son of WILLIAM WITCHELL and MARY CHAPPELL. I have seen something like this before and its another Parish informing the home parish of a marriage taking place perhaps the vicar included it incase the bishop thought he had married them and not paid him his dues, and the death must show us that Nathaniel b,1700 married Sarah BENCE. there was a Jane HOPKINS born in nearby Tetbury but I think she probably was a HOTKINS I assumed this was a typo as so many HOPKINS in Oldbury on the Hill but as we do have that name for certain localy and the rest seems correct if its in the Bishops transcripts. regards Robert Visit my web pages at http://www.hawkesburyhistory.co.uk ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, December 01, 2003 3:29 PM Subject: [HWK] Re Chappell > Hi > I have the following in my records on Jane. marriage Jane 21 Feb 1725 > Bishops trans. 1. [HWK] Nathaniel CHAPPELL / Jane HOPKINS
    2. Hi everyone, Just to add a little more to this one. I've rechecked the photocopies I have taken of the original Oldbury PRs up to 1740. I can report that there is definitely NOT an entry for the marriage of Jane to Nathaniel CHAPPELL registered in 1725. The Registers around this time are a little patchy with no entries for the years just prior to 1724 and they only restart again properly in late 1724. There also seems to be a gap with no entries between the burial of John Harris on 29/04/1724 and the burial of Timothy Sumpsion of Leicester on 16/04/1725. It could be that whereas the original PRs are lacking, BTs are in existence which fill in some of the gaps. Either that or the marriage did not take place in Oldbury. 3. Hi Maurice Its the IGI record thats in question its not an official transcript from the register but from a batch no A459152 a group of marriages submitted by a LDS member the marriages are closely connected to this area of research and on the whole correct and rather than Jane being a HOPKINS she could well be a HOTKINS as it says we have a marriage entry for Hawkesbury of a Jane HOTKINS to Giles TROTMAN 9 Sep 1755 and HOTKINS births in Wickwar abt the time we would expect for Jane so perhaps somewhere there is a marriage? would 1725 be to early for a none conformist. regards Robert Visit my web pages at http://www.hawkesburyhistory.co.uk ----- Original Message ----- From: "Maurice Catt" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, December 01, 2003 9:59 AM Subject: Re: [HWK] Nathaniel CHAPPELL / Jane HOPKINS > Robert, Sue, All, > I have just checked my IGI Records and under HODGSKINS I find the > following entry :- > JANE HOTKINS m NATHANIEL CHAPPELL > 21 Feb 1725 Oldbury - on - the - hill. > Hope this sorts out your problems, > Maurice > > > > > ==== ENG-GLO-HAWKESBURY Mailing List ==== > Please remember when you post messages that SURNAMES should be in CAPITALS. > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > > >
