Where do I find the records on line- Jan -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Reverend Steve Sent: Saturday, 23 January 2010 9:58 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [ENG-ESSEX-WITCHES] Gypsy-Travellers Hi Jan, Welcome to the list. I've never come across references to Gypsies during this period, although there are plenty of records of "rogues and vagabonds" which probably included them. Fortune telling was not a hanging offence, in fact it was widely practised with few prosecutions. Wealthier people tended to visit Astrologers whilst us commoners would visit the local Cunning Man or Woman. Cunning Folk were occasionally accused of witchcraft but rarely found guilty, as they were usually thought to combat witchcraft. See my site .
