    3. Dear All, My GGrandfather, James Edward Stather, was 'lost at sea' in 1866. Does anyone know how to go about finding mention of him or the ship/boat from which he was lost? I think it was a whaling vessel and it would have been based in Hull as that was where his young family was living, he was only 30 years old and left a wife and 4 children. Is there anywhere in Hull that has records of such a nature that I could write to? James' father was also a mariner and I have found no mention of him after James' birth in London. In the 1841 census James' mother was a widow, and James was 5 years old. London is a bit of a red herring as they came from and were married in Beverley, and were in Hull in 1841. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Barbara Chislehurst, Kent.
