On a recent entry from "Baines's Directory of 1823, for Heslington, I found my John Skelton listed under occupations as day school and parish clerk. Does anyone know if this directory contains other information about individuals? In a baptismal entry for 1800, for Heslington, it quotes maternal grandfathers residence as Skeldergate. I have not been able to trace this as a town/village and would appreciate advice on this.
