hello cousins Henry Schofield was born 23 February 1841 at Holt House Farm, Longline, Dore, near Sheffield in South Yorkshire, England. His father was David Schofield, b 1810. His mother was a Laycock, first name lost: (her father was John Laycock, 1780 - 1866). I'm hoping the 1871 Census may give me, at least, her first name. Henry emigrated to New Zealand in 1864 in the sailing ship MERMAID. He kept a diary of the voyage. In 1866 he married Mary Cattermole (born 1846, Suffolk), and in 1868 he and his wife went back to England for five years to stay with his parents, therefore they were at home for the 1871 Census. So I'm looking for David Schofield, 61, Head; X, wife; Henry, son of the head, 30; Mary daughter-in-law, 25; and Elizabeth, 3, BORN NEW ZEALAND; plus William Ball, 1 or infant. I have a photo dated 1872 of this family. As they returned to New Zealand (1873), the two oldest children died of cholera. The new baby survived. Thank you!
