Hello to all. Whilst searching in vain for various male ancestors whom I knew were alive in the 1901 census, it suddenly dawned on me that they would have been in South Africa fighting in the second Boer War (1899-1902). It might be worth bearing this in mind when searching for ancestors at this time and could quite well account for their absence at the time of the census.I hope this helps. Kind regards Jean garforth
Hi Jean and everyone Is there anywhere where Boer War soldiers may be listed? I accept that some of these missing young men could have been there, but it seems rather an easy solution to *so many* missing relatives! I would be grateful for any suggestions of where to look to confirm they were fighting in the Boer War... Thanks Regards Sylvi ----- Original Message ----- From: <Jeangarforth@aol.com> To: <ENG-EAST-YORKS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, September 26, 2002 10:54 AM Subject: [ERY] Re: Boer War and 1901 Census > Hello to all. > > Whilst searching in vain for various male ancestors whom I knew were alive in the 1901 census, it suddenly dawned on me that they would have been in South Africa fighting in the second Boer War (1899-1902).
