Hi Everyone, This list is very quiet at the moment, so here is my latest line of research. I think I might have found a link from my METCALF family of Keyingham/Sunk Island/South Cave to the METCALFS of Skirlaugh / Brandesburton / Swine. Does anyone know anything about a Hyanson or Hianson or Janson METCALF of Brandesburton? He was born around 1690 and married one Elizabeth HARDY. A later descendant called Janson ended his days in the Skirlaugh Workhouse. Any connections to anybody? Best wishes to all, Graham, York. _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: smart spam protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
Hi Graham, A Jonson Metcalfe was buried at Brandesburton in 1752 he is shown as being a Yeoman. This is likely to mean that he had ownership of a piece of land so there may be a will or administration for him that would give family connections. Also a transfer of land could be registered in the Deeds Registry at Beverley. The Brandesburton Manor Court Rolls of 1755 show that Isaac Metcalfe was sworn as a Juryman and also he had the position of Byelawman. There are a lot of surviving Manorial documents for Brandesburton and they are held by the Corporation of London Record Office.
