Hello List I am presently subscribed to several Rootsweb lists, so apologies if you receive this message - or versions of it - more than once. Though new to the List, I'm not new to Genealogy. Here's my interests in the area, in case anyone recognizes them: ATKINSON (penny a pound, I know, I know... sigh) Henry Atkinson was born in Great Stainton DUR abt 1821; married Jane Tweddle in 1843; residing in Aycliffe by 1851; dies about 1856; widow Jane in Stranton DUR by 1861 & marries Thomas ABDALE; son John marries Jane Ann Stewardson in Scarborough ERY 1864; they all immigrate to Philadelphia, USA in 1871. John worked on the Stockton-Darlington Railway. HARDY My GGGgrandmother Ann Hardy (b. Snainton YKS 1816), married William Stewardson in Brompton ERY in 1838. Ran the family Inn in Malton YKS (1850s), then the "Railway Station Inn" Stockton DUR (1860s). Her father Robert resided as an AgLab in Snainton (1841) & West Heslerton (1851). He may have married Jane Goodill in Scarborough 1811. STEWARDSON before 1770 poss. from Ainsty YKS>1770-circa1860 West Heslerton/Yedingham ERY (also York city during 1840s)>Stockton DUR 1860s onward. My GGGgrandfather William Stewardson (Jr., b. W.Heslerton YKS 1811) married Ann Hardy 1838, worked his way up from Ostler to Innkeeper during 1840s & 1850s in West Heslerton, York, & Malton. Ran the White Horse Inn in Malton(?) upon his death in 1856. Son John may have worked for Inland Revenue. WILSON William Stewardson (Sr., b. West Heslerton 1782) seems to have married Hannah Wilson in Wetwang/Fimber ERY 1807. She appears to have died in W. Heslerton 1822. Wilson cousins may have resided in the W.Heslerton area - Lucy Wilson (probable cousin) appears as witness on the marriage certificate of Hannah's granddaughter, Jane Ann Stewardson, in Scarborough 1864. Surnames of individuals who married my ancestors various siblings, cousins, etc. in the area during the 19th century (info may be limited): HUMPHRAY (victualler, SherburnERY 1838>FalsgraveERY1881) KIRBY RICHARDSON (cabinet maker, Stockton1871,1881) SNOWDON (clerk, Stockton1872>York city>Stockton1881) TAIT (coppersmith, Durham?>Staffs1879>London1881) Also possible ancestors of Hannah Wilson - NEWLOVE in Wetwang/Fimber 1700s.
