Hi Richard There are two reasons why this is so. Firstly the registration district of Sculcoates ie BMD, Census records, covered much of what today is Hull and all the surrounding area. Secondly the parish of Sculcoates which is now completely absorbed in Hull was in the 19th century the place where large numbers of migrants from all over EY, Lincolnshire etc moved to for employment. Many of them subsequently moved elsewhere. We have a saying here that if you have lost someone the best place to start looking is Sculcoates as it seems that just about everyone lived there at sometime even if only for a short while Best wishes Peter B ----- Original Message ----- From: <RichardDeedee@aol.com> To: <ENG-EAST-YORKS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: 01 March 2003 19:14 Subject: [ERY] Sculcoates > David Lamb and Joseph Miller correctly interpreted my query about Sculcoates. > I'm not interestred in the place as such but just why does it figure so > prominently in the queries in the mailings in this list.
