Regarding Martin Cross's Yorkshire Brixham strays; a number of Brixham trawlers used to base themselves in Scarborough for the summer holiday season. If shorthanded they would obviously sign on local men and it could be that some of these sailed round to Brixham at the end of the season. Some of these boats may have based themselves on Hull. It was a Scarborough based Brixham trawler that discovered the 'Silver Pits' , an extremely rich fishing area. They were caught out in a storm with their nets down and when they finally managed to haul them up they found some sole( a very agile fish) still in the remains of the torn net. They figured that they must have dragged over a very rich ground and worked ouit where they had drifted over. Richard Dawson ex Thwing, ex Bridlington now Charmouth Dorset
