Hello, I am sure that is right, too. I suppose the principal was the same - economy. People who were not poor could better afford to take a working day off. I couldn't remember where I had read about clergymen waiving their fee on Christmas Day, so I did a "Google" search, and found a thread of messages on the subject, in the archives of the Midmarch Rootsweb list (which wasn't where I saw it originally, as I have never been a subscriber to that list). Anyway, one such message stated: "I had it from the horses mouth. My Dad told me that he was married on Christmas Day, 1919 because they were very poor and the minister did not charge for Christmas Day weddings."
