    3. Paul It could perhaps be 'ley' on the end. The name can be found on the 1881 census. The name is C H Baker (have no idea what the C H stands for, but would love to find out), Sutton St Mary, Long Sutton. RG11/3208 102 Page 19. Son of John Baker of Little London, Long Sutton. Perhaps you would be so kind as to have a look at the page and see what you think. cheers Linda (Perth West Oz) -----Original Message----- From: Paul Kirby [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, 27 November 2005 6:48 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [ERY] Confused by Name place Just a thought - is the Enumerator attempting to designate a Yorkshire North (Riding) town in which case the parish or village could be various locations e.g Helperby, Halnaby, Hawnby? Could it also end with 'ley' instead of 'by'? that raises many more chances. Just guessing! Content-type: Multipart/Alternative; boundary="Alt-Boundary-28574.534151781" --Alt-Boundary-28574.534151781 I have had a look at the census and the place name appears to be Hortesby or Horterby. The latter is how it has been transcribed on Ancestry. I have checked Genuki but there is no place listed on there. The nearest it comes to is Horstenley Victor On 27 Nov 2005 at 18:59, Linda Fiorentino wrote: > Paul > > It could perhaps be 'ley' on the end.
