Thanks for posting the articles Victor. It explains my surprise to see some of my ancestors living by the sea! Of course in their day they were not so close! There is also a map showing the location of all the villages that have disappeared. This is a brief description about this coastline The coastline of Holderness is eroding at around 2m per year. The erosion occurs mainly during storms and tidal surges and a loss of 6m was recorded over two days at Barmston in October 1967. It is estimated that about 76,450,00 cubic metres of material have been lost from the Holderness coast in 100 years (Valentin, 1954) . Only 3% of this material is deposited at Spurn Point, the remainder is deposited in deeper water offshore or is carried across the mouth of the Humber to be deposited within the estuary itself or on the North Lincolnshire coast. Erosion increases as one moves southward. To the lister who asked about Whitby. I don't think there is any need to worry about that town disappearing as it is further north and not in the Holderness area besides the ground conditions there is much firmer.
