Hi Deborah and Anna Ann JEWITT and Thomas UNDERWOOD were my 2xGGrandparents and I am directly descended from their 5th son William UNDERWOOD. Ann JEWITT was the daughter of Edward JEWITT and Elizabeth HAIGH who were married on 6 December 1757 at Howden. They had 4 sons - Joseph, Thomas, Edward and William and 1 daughter Ann between 1759 and 1766. Edward died in 1777 and Elizabeth then married John MONKS on July 2, 1778 at Blacktoft. I have a fair amount of additional information including Edward JEWITT's will of 1777 as well as extensive information on the UNDERWOOD line including Jewitt UNDERWOD and his descendants. Would you like to contact me off list and we can compare notes. Hope to hear from you Paul Underwood
Paul, A long shot I know but did your Jewitts have waterways connections? I have a Charles Jewitt who married a Mary Rea in Malton in 1799. I know not where Charles was born (it doesn't appear to be Malton) but he died there in 1845 aged 72 (so born circa 1873), by which time he had taken to calling himself Capt. Charles Jewitt. The River Derwent flows down from Malton to The Ouse and Blacktoft (where your Jewitts were from) is on the Ouse- told you is was a long shot!!Any thoughts?
