I use Family Historian which is Access based (you don't need to have access). You can see a demo on www.family-historian.co.uk A new version is due to be released this month. Hello Victor, I have been reading the correspondence re the prog FAMILY HISTORIAN. Now I am not a computer buff so am slow in mastering these systems, I have tried several, and given up because I could see that they would not suit my particular needs. Perhaps you would be good enough to comment if I may eventually find one, or should I try a different way. Currently I laboriously compose my lines on A4 sheets then make up a large chart.....to see where I am going ! Currently it is 8 foot by 3 foot. About a 1000 names. Briefly I have 3 distinct groups, which I have inherited or researched by the old methods. 1) 1250 to 1890, with Usurpers carrying on the name [There is a Family Crest involved]. 2) 1550 to present [My line]. 3) 1650 to present. #1 starting just N/W of Sheffield #2 & 3 pointing that way. I have a numbering system and made a list so that I can scroll down to a particular number/person. I was hoping at one time to be able to SORT for date...place of birth.... ditto death....etc. Do you think it would be best to settle for 3 separate files ? I will have a look later at that try and evaluation programme mentioned.
