Hello List, and a very happy New Year, Maybe this year I can get some more of the little ducks in a row...genealogically speaking... Has anyone on the list any idea of how I can find a Pedigree for Rev. Valentine Ma(y)son, born Cherrington Co. Warwick, Nov 1583. (I have no siblings for this Valentine, or indeed parents). He was the founder of the Ma(y)son line of Hull. I am trying to find more information about these Ma(y)sons. I have a line for the family after Valentine, although not complete...this line of Ma(y)sons were linked to two different families of Dixon... my main interest... I do know that Rev. William Mason was the 'Poet Residentiary' of York Minster, he was a 2Xs great grandson of Valentine and considered by some to be the first English poet of his time... I also have on my immediate pedigree, a 2Xs great grandmother born of another 'William Mason of York', who could be related to the Masons of Hull, although quite far back in the pedigree I would think. My 2Xs great grandmother Harriet Mason married into a 3rd line of Dixons, namely my 2Xs great grandfather 'John Webster Dixon' of Sheffield... My 3Xs great grandfather 'William Mason' was a printer of St Martin-le-Grand, Coney Street, York in the early 1800's...he appears to have been born in 1780; Christened at Christ Church York on 20 Feb 1780. this also raises the question as to wether there would be any information for the Church of St. Martin-Le-Grand, and listing of employees etc for the time frame mentioned. I know this Church was severely damaged by bombing in WW11. I have not managed to find Thomas on any census for York, but it is a vast area I know. I do know that this printer, William Mason married a Mary Jane Percevell on 27 Jun 1802 at Christ Church, York, she was the daughter of a Thos Percevell and Mary (Newton) Percevell I believe; and was born in 1781, christened at St. Denis York 23 Aug. 1781. I would think the line is correct as from an 1841 or 51 Sheffield census, I found a brother of Harriet Mason, who was living with his sister and her husband; his name was 'Thomas Percevell Mason'.. Does anyone have an ability to be able to send me a copy of the actual record for this Marriage entry mentioned above, I only have the IGI record as it stands right now... If not, please could you tell me how to go about getting such an entry. I would very much appreciate any help/ information on any of the above, thanking you in advance for your patience, Kindest regards, Josephine, Ontario, Canada.
