The Archives in Beverley [ A2A record ] have the following interesting mention od ' spittle ' Accounts for repair of road to Thorngumbald 17th century fo3-9 Hull to Hedon Turnpike Road Act 1830 fo11 Letter from J Dunthorne to Messrs Frost, solicitors of Hull related to the loss of the Ellen. They are a 'pair of unprincipled pettyfoggers', et cetera with reference to 'the lick-spittle Levett' c.1830 fo12-13 Forms of notice to send men to work on Hull to Hedon turnpike road 1830 fo14 Strange but the description 'unprincipled pettyfoggers' could still apply these days.
