    1. Re: [ERY] Hedon Road Burial Register

    3. Hi Victor. I certainly did enjoy my trip although I had to cut it short as short notice. I had some phone calls from George and it seems shortly before I left Jamie (middle son) started helping himself to our money and to his elder brother Andrew's money too. All this unfolded whilst I was in Bridlington after meeting up with you. Turns out George went to do some shopping and the credit card was refused. Phone calls ensued and he had maxed it out.... We are still tallying final figures but it would be in the region of 9-12K. He was "removed" from the house naturally enough before I got home, locks changed etc and since my return we've had to get a mortgage to cover the debt, change passwords etc. George couldn't do any of this whilst I was away as he's not 'au fait' with the internet and even had to beg the bank to stop my credit card. Luckily I had taken a fair bit of cash with me and my family were brilliant re accommodation. We ended up going back to Hull (totally unrelated) a Jo decided she didn't like Whitby and we never even parked the car!! We did get to Heartbeat country and I managed to get to Ainderby Steeple where my BEARPARK's originated from so that was good and York was the same story as Whitby. We were supposed to be going to Grimsby, stopping at Scunthorpe at some friends of Jo's and after demanding that she ring them (she kept saying they'd be home as they have a mushroom farm) she did ring and yes you guess it - they were on holidays!!! By that time I was at the end of my rope. I'd had enough. It was raining in the Lake District and Scotland so she didn't want to go there and I said if she didn't like Whitby then no way would she like Blackpool so we didn't go there either. We didn't go to Grimsby as Jo didn't have the right information she needed and I made it quite clear that there wasn't any point unless she knew where she was going. So after leaving York we headed for Hull (i just wanted a road our of York....) and stumbled across the Hull road so we went back there, stayed with an aunt, rang my cousin in Luton so see if we could bring everything forward. Drove down to Luton staying with my cousin, made arrangements to leave the car at Luton, left from Heathrow and got home. And boy was I glad to get home. So mixed feelings really. I was very glad to see Aunty Barbara in Luton as she is 84 and told me heaps once we got her going. Got some great photos which I hadn't seen before.Sad to say goodbye though as I don't know when I'll get back. Because of what Jamie did it might take years now. Anyway on to family history. My Dixon's were from Elloughton originally and it was seem George moved to Bridlington sometime around the 1830's as he married in 1833 in Brid. to one Ellen (aka Eleanor DENNIS. Sadly George quite young. I am now in touch with a 'cousin" thanks to Genesreunited who comes from one of George's brothers. The search for George goes on in 1841 and possible 1851. My STEPHENSON's were originally from Nafferton and Kilham and moved to Hull about 1840. Henry is my guy and he settled in the Drypool area where he was a grocer for the rest of his life dying about 1910 (from memory) He is buried in Hedon Road cemetery along wife Elizabeth (ROW) and there is a headstone (long story - another time) but I couldn't find it....... They had several kids:- Walter, Ada, Emma (this one must have died), Elizabeth, Emma, John, Alice, Martha, Bertha from 1865 to 1883. Do you have death dates for your guys. I will have a look at the burial register entries I have noted down. They might be in Hedon Road...??? Needless to say I am no further on with those transcriptions. I wish I had more time..... that is my enemy at the moment - indeed nearly always. There is always someone demanding my time. I should put even 30 minutes aside each day to do those. I will make the effort. So, that's about it..... some good news some bad. How's things going with you? It was lovely to meet up with your again. We'll have to do it again on your next trip here if you are coming this way. Look forward to hearing all your news when you have time. Take care for now.
