Judith, What is particularly confusing is that if you go to the GENUKI "Where is it in Yorkshire" site it lists Hillam in the West Riding parish of Monk Fryston (I have ancestors from both villages) but on that site you will find links to the current web-site of both villages which describe them as "A Village in North Yorkshire". You may already have discovered this but if you go to the Hillam web-site and click on the general history tab you will find that Bulmers 1822 directory lists a John Gilliam as a butcher.
