Further to the mail I just sent, I think Malton is possibly a mis-transcription in the 1891 census, looking at the 1861 and 1871 censuses, there is a Mary Jane Jefferson born Melton and as the marrige is registered in Sculcoates I think this is more likely. So William J may well have been born in Melton perhaps, at his grandparents home and registered in his home parish. The railway would be available for travel between York and Hull I think, so perhaps the journey was not so difficult between the two places, though possibly quite expensive. Sheila Coy
