Good Morning, I have just joined this list, hoping that some one might be able to help me. Is there away of researching North Cave, just the village, in the 1891 census? In particular who lived at Drewton Manor. We had relatives living at Drewton Manor in 1897 and I am hoping that the 1891 census might confirm this information. Any help will most appreciated. Pat
If you have access to an Ancestry subscription, put the name of the village only in the residence part of the query form for the 1891 census. Leave everything else blank. Up will come an alphabetical list of the residents by name. By clicking on the Image button (right end of line) you get to see the actual household in the script of the census. Once you have an image, you can navigate through the entire village by clicking on the Previous/Next arrows to be found at the top of the page ( under the tool bar). Otherwise, read through the whole list until you find a name you recognise. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Patricia L" <polly2@shaw.ca> To: <ENG-EAST-YORKS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 30, 2008 5:09 PM Subject: [ENG-EAST-YORKS] North Cave > Good Morning, > I have just joined this list, hoping that some one might be able to help > me. > Is there away of researching North Cave, just the village, in the 1891 > census? > In particular who lived at Drewton Manor. We had relatives living at > Drewton > Manor in 1897 > and I am hoping that the 1891 census might confirm this information. > Any help will most appreciated. > Pat > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > ENG-EAST-YORKS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without > the quotes in the subject and the body of the message -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No virus found in this incoming message. If you put Drewton in the town box in the residence section --- you will get only 52 hits--- not to many to wade through. William Gray was the head of household. I think it reads as follows:- Drewton Manor. William Gray Head Frances (?) ?? Gray Wife Marjorie (?) ?? Gray Daughter (?) ?? ?? Sister Living on her means Dorothy (?) ?? Taylor Sister Emma Jane ?? Servant Domestic Servant Ellen Longstaff Servant General Servant Sorry I can't be more specific. Hope this helps. Regards, Don.
Good Evening , Thank you very much for all the help with North Cave. Unfortunately I have hit yet another brick wall. I wonder if any one might have an idea of how I might trace who was the Head of Household of Drewton Manor in 1897? It has been suggested that he might have been the Mayor ..but that might be family folk lore.
