Depending on the social position of the family and the actual surviving records, you can find information in poor law records such as overseers accounts, poor rates, bastardy bonds, settlement certificates, removal orders; also land tax assessments, manorial records ( particularly leases), surveys of estates, and others. Look beyond the registers of baptisms, marriages and burials for any scraps of information pertaining to the family of interest. If the marriage was by licence, seek marriage licence bonds and allegations. Some of these sources need care to get the best from them, but any are worth pursuing. This is great information. Thanks so much. I'll show my ignorance by asking where to find these records. It sounds like you have way more experience than I do. Thanks for sharing.
