No. Definitely not. The IGI is not complete; too many possibilities ( and right connections) are omitted to rely on only this source. You must check the parish registers of the relevant parish and others round about. And check for other materials of the parish which could give clarifying detail. There were three Lawrence DALEs born between 1769 and 1780, They are cousins of varying degrees. Not all of them appear on the IGI and many people have put the wrong one into their tree and then posted it on the internet. You need to seek three pieces of information that corroborate your assumption; you might not find them, but you should look. I am quite interested in this topic also. I realize the limitations of the IGI. The challenge does come when one researches back beyond the time of the census, which is of course another tool. Not all that info is exact either. I am currently relying mostly on parish records in the 1700's to the early 1800's, with the occasional will. What other sources are available to get the three pieces of information? Whatever others have said about IGI I would say it is a good starting point in your searches. Once you have the details from IGI you do know where to look for in the Parish Registers and Bishops Transcripts. Just remember that these generally give baptism dates and not birth dates. Baptism can be carried out any time soon after birth or years later I do tend to ignore any information on IGI that are described as patron submissions as these are what are letting the IGI site down. I understand that the IGI is 90% accurate. If that is correct then it is a good start. Only trouble is those names you find may be in that 10% inaccuracy which is why PR and BT are needed to be checked out. Victor Kim wrote: > I am quite interested in this topic also.
