I'm not really a "Dunn" researcher but we did have a Thomas Duggleby Dunn born in 1841 in Bishop Burton ERY who married Elizabeth Dunning (and had children with tongue-twisting-triple-barrelled names!). A bit later than both other researchers are looking at. If you look on the IGI there are lots of Dunn's listed in East Yorks Parishes. I particuarly noted Howden, South Cave, Beverley and Spaldington. It might be wise to spread your searches to neighbouring Parishes to get a better feeling for where the Dunn families were most common and search them as well. -- Alison M Dunning PhD Senior Research Associate Strangeways Research Laboratory Worts Causeway Cambridge CB1 8RN. Hello List and Alison, I have been researching the family Hx for over 10 years. Although I cannot say that any of the Dunns in our 'lines' may be useful in the current thread; they being from both North/East and West Yorkshire and other parts as well. I can give you one closer to home to add to the mix, although I think it unlikely to be of use. I have a Jane Elizabeth Elliott (one of our main lines) who disappeared for 100 years because we didn't think to look for her as married at least not to a man 9 years younger than herself.... She drowned on the Empress of Ireland in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Canada in 1914. We always knew from family lore that she had drowned and where, It was only last year that some kind soul from this List, provided the missing clue. it turned out that Jane had married a James Dunn at Wesleyan Methodist Church Malton in 1907. She was born in 1865, in East Acklam, He was born in Chorlton by Medlock in 1874... he was the son of a Grocer. John Dunn. For some reason James was not with Jane on the Ship when it sank. Just as a matter of interest, this disaster was worse in terms of lives lost, than the Lusitania and the Titanic. The disaster was overshadowed by the First World War. I have plenty of other Dunns from different families, namely Lincolnshire, Sheffield and Handsworth. Not related to the one first mentioned. The latter Dunns were related to my main line of Dixons in Sheffield. Kindest reagrds, Josephine, Ontario Canada. p.s. I was born in East Yorkshire and raised there... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alison Dunning" <alisond@srl.cam.ac.uk> To: <eng-east-yorks@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 14, 2008 7:51 AM Subject: [ENG-EAST-YORKS] Dunn families in ERY > I'm not really a "Dunn" researcher but we did have a Thomas Duggleby > Dunn born in 1841 in Bishop Burton ERY who married Elizabeth Dunning > (and had children with tongue-twisting-triple-barrelled names!).
