Hello, I am listing my family interest for the first time = STEPHENSON FAMILY OF Throckley House/Farm near Newcastle upon Tyne during the 1800s. William Stephenson of Throckley married Elizabeth Ward of Edmondbuyers, Northumberland. They had several children and I am descended from their youngest daughter, Isabella Jane born 1840. William & Elizabeth's eldest surviving son, Sir William Haswell Stephenson went on to be quite well known in Newcastle and was a great benefactor. I know from various census forms that William (the elder) was born at Earsdon near Newcastle (his parents being William and Hannah Stephenson) and on one census form it state his place of birth as 'Mause Close'. Does anyone know if Mause Close is in Earsdon? I have searched the internet but no luck there and I am visiting the area next weekend 3rd/4th March to do some more research so any information received would be helpful to me in finding the place. Many thanks, Lynn Mid Wales
I have the following information regarding the family of a William and Hannah Stephenson from Yorkshire. I don't have any futher information to confirm if this is the same family but perhaps this helps: Descendants of William Stephenson Generation No. 1 1. WILLIAM1 STEPHENSON was born Abt. 1770 in Yorkshire, England. He married HANNAH APPLEBY. She was born Bet. 1771 - 1775 in England. Children of WILLIAM STEPHENSON and HANNAH APPLEBY are: i. MILCAH2 STEPHENSON, b. February 20, 1804, Yorkshire, England. ii. ABEL STEPHENSON, b. 1809. iii. MAJOR STEPHENSON, b. April 03, 1812, Foxholes, Yorkshire, England; d. November 18, 1905, "Homewood Farm" House #104, Con/St. EW., East Gwil.; m. MARY FIELD, April 07, 1834, Bainton, Yorkshire, England; b. April 11, 1816, Yorkshire, England; d. September 23, 1895, King Township, North York, Ontario, Canada. Notes for MAJOR STEPHENSON: From: Linda To: Jane Adams Sent: Friday, February 25, 2005 10:49 AM Subject: Stephenson Hi Jane, I don't see a connection to any of my Stephensons who also came from the East Riding though from different parishes. I looked at the map and Foxholes and Howden are quite distant from each other for those days. I am attaching a genealogical report of our Canadian Stephenson lot to help you sort out Stephensons from Stephensons. I note your Stephensons were at time living in North York. There were several lines of Stephesons in York North and it is hard to know who belongs to who. These belongs to us. http://www.eyfhs.org.uk/ The above is a link for The East Yorkshire Family History Society from which, if you were so inclined, you could purchase the 1851 census for relevant parish or MIs. Ordering the films of parish registers from the LDS could really kickstart your research; I've done it and hit the jackpot. No one has researched the Stephensons in ERY to date and information on them is practically non-existent. We got lucky and the christenings were in the IGI, all children of William Stephenson and Hannah. We know for sure that 2 brothers Major and Appleby came here very early. Appleby's line is not one I have got a lot of information on, sorry. More About MAJOR STEPHENSON: Burial: Kettleby Cem., King Twp., Ont.
