Hi Mark, I was at Beverley Archives today and looked up the marriage at Paull: Edward WHITE of Sunk Island extra parochial adjoining this parish, aged 30 years and upwards and Elizabeth CALVERT of Thorgumbold Chapelry and of this parish, spinster, aged 30 years and upwards, by banns, 6th July 1814 Both made mark, witnessed by Ann SCALES and Elizabeth WILSON OR MILSON. I looked on parlock and Kirby Wiske and Paull are 60 miles apart, don't know if this makes a difference to your theory. I wonder if anyone has access to the Marriage registers for the village of Paull? I suspect my 4 x great-grandmother Elizabeth CALVERT married Edward WHITE there on 6 July 1814. Elizabeth WHITE married James Finkell at Kirby Wiske, North Yorks. on 5th January 1821. Her status was not recorded but on her marriage certificate for what I suspect was her FOURTH(!) marriage, her father is listed as Thomas CALVERT, weaver. The only Elizabeth CALVERT I have found marrying a WHITE around the right time is the Elizabeth of PAULL. I would be very grateful if someone could check if the marital status is given in the 1814 marriage register and also the names of witnesses. I'm also very interested in knowing where the two parties were from. Can anyone also help with a burial for Edward SMITH between 1814 and 1821? Thanks in advance for any help. Hello Maureen, Many thanks indeed for checking the Paull marriage register for me. It is very kind of you. I suspected that the marriage probably wouldn't be for "my" Elizabeth and the places of abode listed for both parties and the names of the witnesses would tend to confirm this. I had also taken into consideration the great distance between the two parishes but since this marriage is the only one on "familysearch" for an Elizabeth CALVERT marrying a Mr. WHITE I thought I might be lucky! Since most of my ancestors were from Lincolnshire I have no idea how comprehensive the IGI for Yorkshire is, but imagine there are more marriages missing than those listed. Clearly the search will have to go on! Thanks once again for your help. Good luck with your own research. (If you have any ancestors in Barcelona I may be able to help you!!)
