I am attaching a genealogical report of our Canadian Stephenson lot to help you sort out Stephensons from Stephensons. I note your Stephensons were at time living in North York. There were several lines of Stephesons in York North and it is hard to know who belongs to who. These belongs to us. http://www.eyfhs.org.uk/ The above is a link for The East Yorkshire Family History Society from which, if you were so inclined, you could purchase the 1851 census for relevant parish or MIs. Ordering the films of parish registers from the LDS could really kickstart your research; I've done it and hit the jackpot. No one has researched the Stephensons in ERY to date and information on them is practically non-existent. We got lucky and the christenings were in the IGI, all children of William Stephenson and Hannah. We know for sure that 2 brothers Major and Appleby came here very early. 3. Hello, I am listing my family interest for the first time = STEPHENSON FAMILY OF Throckley House/Farm near Newcastle upon Tyne during the 1800s. William Stephenson of Throckley married Elizabeth Ward of Edmondbuyers, Northumberland. They had several children and I am descended from their youngest daughter, Isabella Jane born 1840. William & Elizabeth's eldest surviving son, Sir William Haswell Stephenson went on to be quite well known in Newcastle and was a great benefactor. I know from various census forms that William (the elder) was born at Earsdon near Newcastle (his parents being William and Hannah Stephenson) and on one census form it state his place of birth as 'Mause Close'. Does anyone know if Mause Close is in Earsdon? I have searched the internet but no luck there and I am visiting the area next weekend 3rd/4th March to do some more research so any information received would be helpful to me in finding the place. Many thanks, Lynn Mid Wales

    3. Thanks Graham I had previously had him as a possibility, (the only one!) but now that you have suggested him too, I am taking it more seriously. The delay in thanking you is due to the time spent trying to trace him back...North Frodingham is full of DUNNS almost all of whom had Richard as father, sometimes without mother's name given, as in the Richard baptised 1774, and John, 1775, and then 5 with Franky or Frances as mother,(probably Frances READ) and then one Sarah, (probably Sarah JOHNSON),and one with Hannah (probably Hannah THOMPSON)....I can trace most of these to areas around North Frodingham, especially Beeford, and Skeckling With Burstwick, but just using the IGI there is no way of sorting out the families. I feel there is enough to suggest that the Richard born 1774 could well have still been there in early 1800s. (eg, could be the one married to Hannah THOMPSON in 1800, in North Frodingham.) It's doing my head in, and I will have to order a whole lot more LDS films, unless someone has this particular line in their family and can point me in the right direction. I see the ERY Family History Society has MI transcriptions for all these places. I am happy to purchase the books once I am sure there is a likelihood that DUNNs feature around this time period (late 1770s to mid 1800s). Is it permitted to ask if anyone with access to them can have a look for me? Richard, John and Robert are all associated names, which probably doesn't help much!!! Any suggestions gratefully received. 3. Jan, I have several of the MI booklets from the EYFHS, but on checking I found that there are very few records surviving from the period you mention. 3. Hello List and Alison, I have been researching the family Hx for over 10 years. Although I cannot say that any of the Dunns in our 'lines' may be useful in the current thread; they being from both North/East and West Yorkshire and other parts as well. I can give you one closer to home to add to the mix, although I think it unlikely to be of use. I have a Jane Elizabeth Elliott (one of our main lines) who disappeared for 100 years because we didn't think to look for her as married at least not to a man 9 years younger than herself.... She drowned on the Empress of Ireland in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Canada in 1914. We always knew from family lore that she had drowned and where, It was only last year that some kind soul from this List, provided the missing clue. it turned out that Jane had married a James Dunn at Wesleyan Methodist Church Malton in 1907. She was born in 1865, in East Acklam, He was born in Chorlton by Medlock in 1874... he was the son of a Grocer. John Dunn. For some reason James was not with Jane on the Ship when it sank. Just as a matter of interest, this disaster was worse in terms of lives lost, than the Lusitania and the Titanic. The disaster was overshadowed by the First World War. I have plenty of other Dunns from different families, namely Lincolnshire, Sheffield and Handsworth. Not related to the one first mentioned. The latter Dunns were related to my main line of Dixons in Sheffield. Kindest reagrds, Josephine, Ontario Canada. p.s. I was born in East Yorkshire and raised there... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alison Dunning" <alisond@srl.cam.ac.uk> To: <eng-east-yorks@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 14, 2008 7:51 AM Subject: [ENG-EAST-YORKS] Dunn families in ERY > I'm not really a "Dunn" researcher but we did have a Thomas Duggleby > Dunn born in 1841 in Bishop Burton ERY who married Elizabeth Dunning > (and had children with tongue-twisting-triple-barrelled names!).
