    2. Robert and Daphne Stephenson live at Arras Farm at the top of the hill just outside of market Weighton. They run Arras Farm Bed and Breakfast. It is an outstanding place. Robert has done a lot of genealogy and has his lineage back to the 1600s(?). His family has been at Arras farm for about 400(?) years. 3. Those of you considering the purchase of genealogical software may be interested in Version 7 of Legacy, just released. It appears to have many new features, particularly related to charting and mapping, and also eliminates some of the more annoying features of V.6, much as having to save data and multimedia files in separate actions and the way in which source data is entered... Yes, the price HAS gone up, by a whole $US5.00 for the downloadable version with the manual as a PDF file. As I recall, the upgrade price quoted to those of us running V6 is $US21.95. I have been using V6 for more than a year and have been very pleased by it, though I have yet to become familiar with a number of the bells and whistles. I think it to be a remarkable piece of software - especially for the price. Harry Harry Needham 74 Abbeyhill Drive Kanata ON K2L 1H1 Canada +1.613.831-1068 harry@hncs.ca http://www.hncs.ca/

    2. Hi Yvonne, Thanks for all the fantastic info! Could you just confirm whether the Driffield birth records will be at the same Harrogate RO, please? I'd like to get the Driffield birth certificate as well as the marriage one, see whether they look likely to be for the same person. 3. Hello Steve, From the contents of your discussion, I suspect that you have been relying on IGI searches to identify your John Horsley. The problem with this is that not all areas have had coverage or equal coverage. As far as I can ascertain, Beeford transcriptions stop at 1838, 10 years too early for your ancestor so he could still be recorded at Beeford or any nearby parish not yet covered for 1848. Good Luck Paul skwalker@ntlworld.com wrote: > This is my first post to this list, so hello everyone. 1. [ENG-EAST-YORKS] HORSELEY
    2. Hello everyone, Whilst HORSELEY is a current topic ..... does anyone recognise the following, if so I'd love to hear from you. My 5xg grandfather was John HORSELEY b. abt 1760 who died in Jun 1820. The burial register notes that he was of Hull, late of Flamborough. I don't know who he married but he chd. 2 daughters at Flamborough in 1781. The daughters were called Jane and Elizabeth. Elizabeth married Christoper COLLEY in Flamborough in 1806 and died in 1817. Best wishes Sue Sissons John I can't help you directly but if you get further back i've got a Mary Horsley married Thomas Dawson(b 1716, d 1777 Beeford), Children; Mary 1739, Thomas 1742, George 1744, Robert 1748, Elizabeth 1754. They are not my ancestors but a collateral branch. Richard Dawson

    1. Re: [ENG-EAST-YORKS] John Horsley
    2. Hi Steve I take it that you don't know the names of the parents of John Horsley (gggf). If that is the case, then this entry transcribed from the GRO will not help you, at least immediately. Taken from the freebmd website, there are these entries for John Horsley around 1847/48. September Quarter 1847 John Horsley Bridlington district Vol 23 page 28 John Horsley Scarbro' District Vol 24 Page 517 (this is likely the one you mention as found in the census) John Ford Horsely Driffield District Vol 23 Page 44 March Quarter 1848 John Horsley Driffield District Vol 23 Page 34. Driffield District covers Beeford, so out of this list the last one seems more likely to be yours, unless of course your John had the middle name 'Ford'. As mentioned, these entries are taken from the freebmd site and this site does not have a complete list of the GRO records. These (GRO records) are available in local libraries of larger towns & cities. If you do know John's parents names, then you could write to the local registry office to purchase the certificate stating the names of his parents in order to verify it is the correct birth cert. They will return your cheque if the details do not match. The local registrar's office would not need the volume and page details. Hope this helps. Rgds Yvonne. BTW - In case you haven't got it yet, the marriage between John Horsley and Sarah Bogg took place in the December Quarter Scarbro' District Vol 9d Page 693. Again you could apply for this via the local registrar's office. The information states these records are held at the Record Office below. You could email or phone to check. The marriage cert will give you fathers' names of the couple. The Register Office, Bilton House, 31 Park Parade, Harrogate, HG1 5AG. Tel: 01423 506949. Fax: 01423 502105. 1. Re: [ENG-EAST-YORKS] John Horsley
    2. Hi John, Not entirely - I did access the actual census records for various years to try to track him down too, and can find him as an adult in Scarborough but not with any certainty before he got there. Do you know if there's a local family history society where I might be able to get anything on the parish records? I've been trying to identify some decent possibilities so I can get some documentation to prove/disprove a connection, but no luck so far. Cheers, Steve > From: Paul Kirby <prkirby@bigpond.net.au> > Date: 2008/06/03 Tue AM 04:40:02 GMT > To: eng-east-yorks@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [ENG-EAST-YORKS] John Horsley > > Hello Steve, > From the contents of your discussion, I suspect that you have been > relying on IGI searches to identify your John Horsley.
