    2. Andy Leach
    3. Hi Folks I've recently joined the list and this is my first post. I'm particularly interested in George LEACH, born 1849, married Ada(h) WELBURN on 1st July 1871 at Garton on the Wolds. I'm struggling to find where George was born and when/where he died. George & Ada had a son named George Robert, born 26th August 1872 at Garton on the Wolds. George's father was John LEACH (no details known). I cannot find John, George nor George Robert in any census (with the exception of George Robert in 1901). I can understand how someone could be missing from one census, but not how they can be missing from all censuses. The only explanation I can think of is that both John and George objected to the census, and avoided taking part. However, I am new to all of this and would welcome any other suggestions. Any info on George or John would be much appreciated. Thanks, Andy _________________________________________________________________ http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/msnnkmgl0010000002ukm/direct/01/

    1. [ENG-EAST-YORKS] Yorksgen 2008 - Researching & Accommodation - Last Call
    2. Janet Lovegrove
    3. Hi Everyone Just to let you know that there are still 2 rooms available for the 2nd week from July 12-19th. The first week is fully booked. Please let us know ASAP if you may be interested in attending any part of our event or if you would like additional info. You do not have to take part in any of our program, maybe you would just like to book a room for the 90 UK pounds and do your own thing, visit, sightseeing, etc. You cannot get a better bargain for accommodation. For more info, please check out the website: http://www.yorksgen.com/ Follow the links to the 2008 Get Together. A lot of you have probably heard about the event that we have held every 2 years in York since 2000. This year it is named Yorksgen 2008 and it is from Saturday July 5 to Saturday July 19th. We have room on the 2nd week from July 12-19th. It is a chance for people from all over the world who have an interest in researching their family tree to visit the land where their ancestors came from. We have people coming from Australia, New Zealand, Portugal, Germany, Canada, USA, Scotland and England. This is not part of a commercial event, its just some ordinary people trying to put this together and not for a profit. We stay in student houses near York University. A short bus ride into York. Within walking distance to Borthwick where a lot of the records are held. Each house has 10 single bedrooms, each with bed, wardrobe, desk, sink. Shared facilities include a large well equipped kitchen where we often get together for a lot of fun times. Coin laundry within a couple minutes walk. Store nearby. Charles X11 Pub nearby which is a great spot to get together for a meal, a drink, and social gathering. There is no set program that anyone has to follow. Use the facilities to sleep and do your own thing. Go to the different Archives within Yorkshire. There is a program that has been set but it is up to each individual if they want to participate in any, part, or all of it. The program includes talks, walks, trips and tours and is again based on the cost. Take a look at www.yorksgen.com and follow the links for this event. Don't worry if you are solo as many of the attendees are solo. Don't worry about your age. My mother-in-law Dorothy is coming for the 5th time and she is 83 years old. Don't worry if you don't know anyone. There are lots of new people that come each time and everyone is made to feel welcome and does feel welcome. The cost for accommodation is 90 pounds per week, a price you cannot beat. If you have an interest or would like more information about this event, please contact me offlist. Janet Lovegrove

    3. Dear Subscribers, Paul Leavett inspired me. I joined the list recently but had not yet posted my interests. So here goes. The family's records appear in North Newbald parish (Bishop's Transcripts). Robert and Hannah (Watson) Smart and their children emigrated to Indiana in the 1830s. I am particularly interested in Hannah Watson and her forbears as I am tracking an umbilical line. Hannah and her daughter, Esther, are my 3rd and 2nd great grandmothers. 1. [ENG-EAST-YORKS] Binnington and Gray Families
    2. paul leavett
    3. Hi I have just joined the list and so would like to post my interests... Thomas Binnington b. 1768 most likely North Dalton married Mary Gray b. May 28 1769 Bainton. I know this is the right Mary Gray, because she continues her contact with her brother Luke Gray as well as names a son after her brother. Mary and Luke Gray's parents are William Gray of Bainton and Mary Tasker of Warter. What I would like to do however, is to confirm Thomas Binnington's birthplace and his parentage. Thomas was a carpenter and builder in London. We have followed Thomas and Mary from their marriage in July 1796, it looks as though they stayed in York right before their marriage. They then travelled almost immediately to London, where they went on to baptize 10 children in the Bishopsgate area. I can confirm a lot of this because we were lucky enough to locate Thomas Binnington's will in London. Also, they maintained contact with Mary's Gray brother in Manchester. We have tons of info on this family after 1796. Can anyone confirm Thomas' birth etc.? Can anyone add to what we already have? Thank you Pam __________________________________________________________________ Looking for the perfect gift? Give the gift of Flickr! http://www.flickr.com/gift/

Perhaps a bit off message, but I don't think we need to worry about it. Or it might be I am just used to all the junk mail non users try to post to the list, which I have to check and dump each day Admin

    3. I assume, Tony, that your message was a shot at me for advising subscribers to this and a few other lists that a new version of Legacy was available. For your information, it was not advertising, as I have nothing whatsoever to do with the people who manufacture and/or sell Legacy. Over the past year, I have seen considerable discussion, on pretty well every genealogical list to which I subscribe, on the various software alternatives. My postings were simply to advise others that a new version of Legacy had just become available, with some striking new features. If I have offended you by so doing, I most humbly beg forgiveness.
