Thank you so much for the great suggestions on finding death records. As I live overseas a visit to Yorkshire is hoped for but not practical. Joining the EYGS however, is possible and just what I plan to do. Kim
The EYFHS transcribed records would be for MI's That is Monument Inscriptions. compiled my members checking MI's in cemeteries. It wont include those deaths where there i no MI. The next best is to visit Chanterlands Avenue Crematorium office where they have the burial records. Or you can go to the Hull City archives and look at the Paris records for deaths. Try looking on the East Yorkshire Family History Societies website. They have quite a lot of transcribed records for Sculcoates at very reasonable prices. It is very well worth joining the society, there are lots of very interesting articles in the quarterly magazine which widen knowledge of the lives and times of our ancestors. LDS records are mainly concerned with birth and marriage because of their religious beliefs. Bear in mind that this tremendous resource that is freely available to us was not set up for our benefit but as part of their beliefs. I am interested in reading death records for Sculcoates. Can anyone tell me where to locate them? I have checked the LDS films and they seem to just cover births and marriages. I am specifically looking for St Paul's Church at this time. Thanks for your help. Kim
Hi Brigitte~ I have a Charles HARRISON in my Family Tree. Charles was born in Wilberfoss, E. Yorkshire 1859-60 bapt. 19 Jan. 1860. Son of Robert Harrison & Annie Duggleby. A total of 14 children in all. The family came to Toronto, Canada 1880's. Charles married in 1892 in Toronto, to Charlotte Fraser. Any connection? Or just a coincidence? Bill Harrison, Canada. --- Original Message ----- From: <brigittebh@aol.com> To: <eng-east-yorks@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, July 03, 2008 3:04 PM Subject: Re: [ENG-EAST-YORKS] ENG-EAST-YORKS Digest, Vol 3, Issue 109 > my genealogy interests..... > > In East Yorkshire, England: > > CARRICK - Easington, East Riding, also CARRITT, CARROT > > In East Yorkshire, England > > CASTLE - Owthorne, East Riding, Yorkshire > > TUTTING, TUTTIN - Owthorne, East Riding, Yorkshire > > MEDFORTH - Kilnsea, Easington, Yorkshire > > STAPLES - Out Newton, Easington, East Riding, Yorkshire > > BRIDE - Kilnsea, East Riding, Yorkshire > > BARNES - Kilnsea, East Riding, Yorkshire > > FRANCIS - Easington, East Riding, Yorkshire > > BRANTON, Isabell - 1715 Easington area, East Riding, Yorkshire > > HARRISON, Charlotte and Charles - Kilnsea, East Riding, Yorkshire > > WEBSTER - back to 1702 Easington, East Riding, Yorkshire > > FOSTER - late 1600s Easington, East Riding, Yorkshire > > ROBINSON - Bridlington, Yorkshire > > WAITES - Bridlington, Yorkshire
Hello, Pat in Canada, I'm Brigitte in Clifton, Virginia, with lots of ancestors from the East Riding of Yorkshire. I checked on the Genuki website, and there are a number of Bartons right there in Yorkshire which might be the place you are looking for, one near Richmond, in north Yorkshire. At least try them before looking into Lancashire, unless you have a hunch you are following. You can click on the hyperlinks below if they have survived this posting; otherwise google GENUKI, go to their site map, and look for "where is it in Yorkshire?" http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/Misc/Where/index.html. I would think that the one near Richmond (at least) is worth checking into. You probably already know how to do searches using batch numbers for any particular town you are researching. If not, I could probably help out. GENUKI: Bartindale (E) : Hunmanby Barton (N) Barton Dale, see Bartindale (E) : Hunmanby Barton Le Street (N) Barton Le Willows (N) : Crambe Barton St. Mary's, see Barton (N) : Barton All good luck to you in your research. I am looking for HARRIET WRIGHT.We have her firmly placed in the family after her marriage. It is the before stuff we are short on. When she married in 1897 she gave her place of residence at the time of marriage as Drewton Manor, North Cave. Age 24 I have the marriage certificate. This would make her born in 1873. On the Kingston upon Hull 1901 census her birth place is given as Ottringham, Yorkshire.Age 29 Was quite excited at that bit of information so dashed of and checked the FBM but can not find her as yet. She died in 1952 in Barton..could this be Barton upon Irwell ,Manchester, Lancashire? Would it be wise at this point to send away for the death certificate? I hesitate because I am not sure if the information will be helpful. I have searched each of the 1891, 1871, census and so far can not find her. Hello Brigitte, Thank you for your e mail. The Barton in Lancashire will be the one I need I think. She, and her husband, moved to the Manchester area.Thomas her husband became a missionary working for the Manchester City Mission. My husbands ancestors mostly come from Yorkshire, the Holderness area. Easington is the area where our family is from. We visited Easington a few years ago. Have you visited Yorkshire? I would really be most grateful for any help regarding searching by batch number. Hi Pat. Was she still WRIGHT in 1901? I had a quick look and couldn't find her but wasn't sure if she had married by then or not. If you have the marriage cert what was her father's name as quoted on that? That might help us track her down in previous censii. Personally I wouldn't send for the certificate as death certs are only as good as the informant. More often than not (in my experience) they don't give any more info. My first step would be to order the baptism film in for Ottringham and see if she's there. That should give parents (hopefully) and then go from there. As for Barton - more likely to be Barton on Humber. I have WRIGHT's too but mine are from Goathland, Whitby and then on to Hull. ttfn Trish Ex Hull lass on central coast of NSW, Oz Patricia L wrote: > Hi Trish, Mary,Don, Wendy,Sue Barbara, > You all have helped me tremendously for which I thank you. > I am looking for HARRIET WRIGHT.We have her firmly placed in the family > after her marriage. You are most kind, thank you very much Lynn. The only mention of Ottringham as her birth place is on the 1901 census, this is all I have to go on so I am keeping my fingers crossed you will find her. I suspect that she is illegitimate. The space for father on the marriage certificate is blank Best wishes Pat ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lynn Lucas" <lynnlucas@btinternet.com> To: <eng-east-yorks@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 02, 2008 10:19 AM Subject: Re: [ENG-EAST-YORKS] North Cave > Hi Pat > There is a Harriot Wright Patrington 1872 Mar qtr 9d 246 found on Ancestry > but appearing under this spelling on Freebmd. Although South Cave has a town charter and a town hall, it has never had a Mayor and has never had a Mayoral entitlement. Children from Drewton attended South Cave School, not North Cave, and, as Sheila says, it is closer to South Cave. It is possible that he was the Mayor of South Cave, I don't have time to check facts, but South Cave is a town and may have the entitlement of a mayor or maybe it would be Market Weighton. I think Drewton may be nearer to South cave then North Cave if the location of the present Drewton Stray Manor is anything to go by. I may be giving mis information here and I am too busy to check at the moment. A google search of Drewton Manor, North Cave and South Cave will give you lots of interesting information. Have you looked at the GENUKI pages. cheers sheila ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara Chamberlain" <chariklo@sympatico.ca> To: <eng-east-yorks@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 01, 2008 3:04 PM Subject: [ENG-EAST-YORKS] Drewton Manor > Patricia L wrote: > >> > Good Evening , >> > Thank you very much for all the help with North Cave. >> > Unfortunately I have hit yet another brick wall. >> > I wonder if any one might have an idea of how I might trace who was >> > the >> > Head of Household of *Drewton Manor in 1897?* >> > It has been suggested that he might have been the Mayor ..but that >> > might be >> > family folk lore. >> > Pat > > In 1901 just four years later:- > > Walter George REDFERN , 44 grain, > seed, ? merchant b. more likely to be Barton upon Humber-- a shore boat ride away. Their was quite a lot of movement between the Humber banks, There were certainly Wrights in the Holderness area. Hi Trish, Mary,Don, Wendy,Sue Barbara, You all have helped me tremendously for which I thank you. Pat Canada

Wendy, At least I got some of it right!! As a matter of interest Genuki - Bulmers Directory for North Cave 1892 - scroll down to Drewton - Miscellany of Trades. Here is listed "Gray, William, Junr. Seed Crusher. Office 35, High Street, Hull." Looks like the same person.
