    3. hI Is anyone doing a family history search on the HALDENBY family. I believe they had a Pork Butchers business. On the 1881 census there is an Edward HALDENBY (Pork Butcher) of Kent West St. Southcoates. Hull. Did one of his children marry a MARKHAM? In 1881 the Children were KATE 5 years, Mary 3 years and Thomas 4 months. Thanks in anticipation Freda

    2. Hi Do you mean William and Freda were blacksmiths! I am sure you mean Thomas. You do not say which areas you are looking at. I do not have Thomas on my line but do have a William born in Billingborough, Lincs in 1800 so may not be this one. 3. Hi Alan, Yes, the Lowthorpe registers are held at the CRO in Beverley. The IGI entry gives his mother as Elizabeth, with no father mentioned, and it is possible that he was illegitimate, and maybe his mother gave him his father's name of Whytehead. Sorry I'm not going in the near future, but maybe someone else is. William WRIGHT of Welwick, Yorkshire apparently committed suicide on 9th July 1899 and I am wondering if there may have been any article written about this death in the local papers of the time. He was a tailor; father Edward WRIGHT also a tailor. Any feedback would be helpful. Noreen Gunn Surrey, BC Canada

    1. Subject: [ERY] Re: James Atkinson of Patrington.
    2. peter rooke
    3. Dear Peter F I have had so many useful responses to this request I'm overwhelmed. I'm sure that Thomas son of James ATKINSON born Tunstall 1821 remained in Patrington as I find him there in the 1851 census index at f160v and he is living alone in High Street Patrington a confecioner and beer seller in the 1881 census. He appears to have had a son James born about 1857 who became a joiner and was still in Patrington in 1880 when he married. That the beer business was entrenched in the family is apparent though as I found that James J ATKINSON was listed in Kelly's Directory of 1921 as the landlord of the Holderness Inn Patrington although he had become a bicycle dealer by 1929 and a non-ATKINSON was in the pub. The Thomas ATKINSON who moved to Dunswell is someone else. Peter B said that he had been born in Patrington in c. 1817 and his son, Herbert, who was born c. 1869 at Sunk Island just near to Patrington became the publicanat two public houses in Dunswell from c. 1900 before taking to farming in the area. I see no Thomas ATKINSON of an appropriate age in the Patrington district in the 1851 census so maybe he had moved before then. My ATKINSONs moved to Hull before 1841 and lived there, Newland, Sculcoates and Cottingham until late in the century when they moved away entirely. I too have answered on list as there seem to be a number of people interested. Yes, we must compare notes further off list. 3. Dear List, I'm fairly new to research in the East Riding... Would I be right in assuming parish registers for Lowthorpe are held at Beverley ? If so would it be possible for SKS to check the birth / baptism for a Charles Whytehead Hillaby who was baptised in Lowthorpe on Nov 3 1796 ? I am interested in who is down as parent(s) ? and any other relevant information.. I'm also interested in 1851 census index for Lowthorpe, Garton-on-the-Wolds and Nafferton, could somebody advise on which one's I need from the East Yorkshire FHS ? (It's not immediately obvious..) Many Thanks, Alan Crossland.
