    3. Hello to all, Thank you to everyone who replied to the above. I have now found an excellant report in "The Centenary Book of Hull" by John Markham, the said book sitting in my bookcase staring at me!! This has now narrowed by search down considerably but if anyone has any info. on his bankruptcy trial (I presume that was what the trial was about) I would love to know more. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to go into HULL at the moment but I am sure that there will be a record there. Kind regards. Jean-HULL

    3. Hi to all, I hope you do not mind me posting this letter to this list because strictly speaking it is a non gen. subject. I am interested in finding out more about Z.C. PEARSON. All I know so far is that he was a Lord Mayor of Hull, Pearson Park was donated by him and he was a blockade runner during the American Civil War. The ship was called the "MODERN GREECE" and was sunk near WILMINGTON, North Carolina. I know that he stood trial in HULL but so far I have not been able to locate details of the trial. Any further information on the above named gentleman would be greatly appreciated. Jean-HULL

    3. Could anyone on the list tell me if Sculcoates had a local newspaper during WW1? I'm trying to find a photo of my gt-uncle Thomas Frederick PURNELL who died in Apr. 1916 in France. I understand that sometimes the papers of the town where the soldier was born posted photos along with the casualty lists. He was born in Sculcoates but lived on Leonard St. in Hull- he has a small memorial on his mother's grave in Western Cemetery in Hull. TIA Ruth, Ontario,Canada

    3. Many thanks Kevin. I've had a quick look at the Goole data and will probably be returning to it as my research continues. At this stage I am back to the 1881 census with this line. There is an Eleanor (nee HODGSON I believe, born approx 1856) married to Louis LEE living at 5 Water Side with their 3 children Rose, Anna and Nellie. Louis died in approx 1886 and then Eleanor married Edmund SMITH in Goole in 1890. The family then moved to Bury, Lancashire where Eleanor died in 1895 after childbirth and Edmund sadly took his own life not long after.Any interests/connections in Goole would be most welcome! 3. Dear Carolyn I am sure that we would all be interested in the information from your Hull Advertiser. As it sounds as if it is about to disintegrate might I suggest that you take some advice from a local Archives Office about the best way to conserve it. The local County Record Office here in Manchester operates a conservation service for the public at a very reasonable cost and, perhaps, an office near you would do the same. It would be a shame if the newspaper disappeared in a puff of dust one day! While you are deciding what to do with it I suggest that you keep it flat and don't fold it up again. I have a letter, written in 1862, in my possession and I did nothing about conserving it and now it is in several pieces with some of the writing missing where the folds were. Fortunately I had transcribed it but it isn't the same as having the letter intact. Welcome to the list and good luck with your researches. Mary Pendlebury Oldham Lancashire England

    3. By chance I stumbled on a tree, That you might call a pedigree, Its author I have failed to find, To answer all that comes to mind. Bowser Pedigree The earliest entry is William BOWSER of Wharram le Street who I believe was born in the early 15th century and Acklam & Burythorpe are prominent in succeeding generations. My line of the family gravitated to south Wales, via Lincolnshire and London. I have successfully traced back to Levi BOWSER (c1700) of Headon, but in doing so I dispute certain entries on the pedigree. Clearly I must attempt to verify as much as possible. I discovered that Ancestry.com market parish register CDs covering the East Riding but also that the parishes of Wharram le Street, Acklam and Burythorpe do not appear on the CDs. My most pressing problem, therefore, is to access the registers for these parishes. Can anyone please advise me where these records are located and how best I may access them given that I live in south west Wales? Better yet, is there anyone out there researching or linking in with this family? Daring to hope. Peter (Calvert) Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, Wales.
