    3. Dear Friends I have heard from Colin Hinson, and then downloaded for myself, a message that Colin thought came from me. It was a message about the Upper Dales FH Group, but on checking the address it was certainly NOT my email address, although it had my name at the front of it. I am at a loss to understand how it has culled my name, and a message I sent weeks ago to my own group, but with a different email address. As usual, my Norton is updated every single day, and although I have received dozens of virus this last 2 weeks, I have not opened any of them, and my system is clean. Any ideas about how this happened would be most appreciated!! Please accept my apologies if anyone thought I was sending virus out - not guilty on this one but most enthralled as to how it works! 3. Hello ERY Listers, I would like tothank Diane, Alan and Sheila for answering my request for a look-up for John Joseph Smith It would appear that there is very little information on the 1841 census and what there is must be hard to find. As I am not even sure that my John Joseph was born in Yorkshire (I found this one by trolling through 8000 John Smith's on the IGI) and the Rachel Smith found plus the age of the granddaughter all add up to the impression that this is probably the wrong one. But at least that is one of the 25 John Josph's I found eliminated for now. I'll put him on the back shelf and try for the rest Thanks again Gill Smith in Ontario Canada

    1. [ERY] NORDASS / Dr. Barnados Homes
    2. Martin Cross
    3. Dear list, I have some distant cousins named NORDASS. When I did a search on the 1901 census I found there were only 13 people in the country with that name, (possibly more due to mistranscribing), and that 11 of these were living or born in Flamborough, so connected to me. The other two, who appear to be sisters, were living in Oxfordshire, and their place of birth was given as 'unknown as from Dr. Barnados Home'. My question is, does anyone know if Barnados children were likely to have kept their own name, or would the name have been given to them by the home? If anyone has any connections to NORDASS, (Flamborough, preceeded by Beeford) I would be interested to hear from you. Martin Cross Brighton

    3. Hi Peter Thanks very much for your advice. Unfortunately the 1851 index is no use to me just yet as Emily TAYLOR was born c1852, although i did hope that with a population of just 101 it could be that all the TAYLOR's in Arnold were related. Once i know more i will probably purchase the 1851 census index. Emily's birth is not on free bmd. The marriage however is on free bmd in the district of Hull. This is most likely my next step. Thanks again for taking the trouble to reply Kim drofeeb wrote: > Hi Kim, > The hamlet of Arnold before 1867 was in Swine parish and after > that date it was in Skirlaugh parish. 3. Hi Kim, The hamlet of Arnold before 1867 was in Swine parish and after that date it was in Skirlaugh parish. The place itself is very close to the village of Long Riston which has a parish of its own. So before 1867 you need to look at Swine and Long Riston and after 1867 at Skirlaugh and Long Riston. There are some Taylors shown as being born in Arnold in the 1851 census index that covers that area. It is the "Skirlaugh" index and is available online from the EYFHS at www.eyfhs.org.uk You may be better trying for a marriage certificate first if you are not sure where the event took place. Have you looked at http:\\.freebmd.rootsweb.com Peter B ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kim Craven" <kim.craven@virgin.net> To: <ENG-EAST-YORKS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: 05 October 2002 02:21 Subject: [ERY] TAYLOR born in Arnold Dear Listers My GGGrandmother was Emily TAYLOR born c1852 in Arnold, Yorkshire. According to the family bible she married George DOBSON, born in Little Coates, Linconshire on the 9th December 1869. Unfortunately the bible doesn't say which church. I am guessing that it would most likely have been the brides parish, because according to the 1881 census their son William, was also born there on18 March 1871. Can some kind soul with local knowledge of Arnold, Yorkshire maybe advise me which church it would most likely have been? Does anyone have easy access to this churches records?? Finally, is there anyone else with TAYLOR ancestors from Arnold, Yorkshire. Thanks so much for bearing with me Kim ______________________________

I did find some on a web site, but they only seemed to cover the period of time up to around 1838. I'm looking for batch numbers that cover the late 1800's to early 1900's. Many thanks Linda. 2. The HDM has been microfilmed and copies are in the Hull Central Library. Sorry I don't know if you will be able to buy a copy though I doubt it. Talking about the Central library listers may be interseted to know that they have a copy of the Parish Records for Yorkshire. These records cover 16 and 17th century and each place has its own volume. I am unable to say if there was a volume for evry place in Yorkshire there though I doubt it and I think only volumes for East Yorkshire places are on the shelves.
