Hi everyone, I wonder if someone can tell me whether I am on the right lines here. I'm looking for some pre-1858 wills for the East Riding particularly Hull. I've had a look at what the LDS Family History Library has. Do I order the Church of England. Archdeaconry of the East Riding. Court - Original wills, bonds, inventories 1571-1682, 1701-1849? This seems logical to me but is it possible they could be with the PCY wills? Judith

Hi All, Please find below the additions and updates for the past 2 or 3 weeks to the Genuki Yorkshire site. If you haven't already visited the Genuki site, then at least give it a go! You can start at http://www.genuki.org.uk/ for general, getting started, researching from overseas data etc. and work your way down the hierarchy to http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/ where you will find Yorkshire specific information. There are around 9,000 pages of information there, so have a look at the hierarchy diagram (link at top of above page) so that you can understand how the site is laid out. You will find answers to a lot of the general questions frequently asked on the lists e.g. "Where is xxxx place", "Where are the records for xxxx held" etc. etc. Genuki is run totally by volunteers, and the data is held mainly on the Manchester University server so you will find no commercial stuff on there, though of course there are links into commercial pages - mainly concerned with booksellers, FHSs, and CDrom sellers. In theory, there should be no "frames" in the pages, and all of the pages (well, the Yorkshire ones at any rate) should be quick to download. I have today removed totally the page which used to be the main Genuki Yorkshire page at: www.blunham.demon.co.uk/genuki/YKS/ so if you have any links or favourites or book-marks referring to this page, please remember to change them to the URL below. Hello Mike and June: Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction. Went on Genuki with your directions and found some great stuff - exactly what I was looking for and more! Thanks again. Sher in Ontario.
Hello list: Can anyone tell me if Cleasby is in the East Riding? Sher at Ontario
I am the new boy on the block having recently found out that my G,Grandparents are buried in the Sculcoates Registration District. I am waiting for their death certificates to arrive from the UK which will give me more details of the deaths. Once I have these details I will, no doubt, be pestering the subscribers for information and look ups etc. It may also be beneficial if I joined the East Yorkshire Family History Society but all my attempts at contacting the Web Master have been unsuccessful, is the group still active ? and would anyone have an alternative address to the one I have been using -- www.astrogen.freeserve.co.uk/eyfhs.html For the record, I am looking for William CHARD, died 1890 and his wife, Esther CHARD, died 1916. It is highly likely that some of their children moved to Yorkshire with them from Dorset to Lancashire and finally Hull. Regards Peter in Auckland NZ.
Hello Listers I am a newby to these wonderful lists (and an OAP!) so please forgive any faux pas!! My interest in this area is Kate (Kitty) SHIP(P) and her brother John, both born Caistor in the early 1890's. Kitty lived in Scunthorpe in the 1930/40's. Does Kitty or John appear in your tree, or are you researching this name. Peggy - Somerset
A few months ago I offered to do free 1881 census look-ups for Great Britain & Canada. I had some 200 unanswered requests in my inbox, but unfortunately in early August I suffered a major computer disaster (!)--I had to get my motherboard replaced. The repair shop backed up my system successfully so I didn't lose any major genealogical data, but they forgot or didn't think to back up my e-mail, so that I lost some 1000 messages from my inbox. Therefore if you requested a look-up & have been wondering what the hold-up was (!), I'm sorry to say I've lost the request......I have nothing before August 10, 2002. Please feel free to ask again & I will get to it ASAP. A few things to keep in mind when requesting 1881 census look-ups: Please put "1881 census look-up" in the subject line so my e-mail program can filter all requests to the same folder. Please give me more info than just a name &/or location. Every bit of detail helps, & you'd be surprised how many persons of the same names there were living, for example, in Great Britain in 1881. Ages (even if approximate), occupations, names of relatives, religion, birthplace... everything helps. I have gotten several requests for 1881 census look-ups in Ireland....let me reiterate, once again, that the 1881 census for Ireland, like so many of Ireland's censuses, has not survived. These look-ups are for the following countries ONLY: Canada England Scotland Wales Channel Islands Thank to you everyone for your patience & I'm very sorry about all the requests I lost; please feel free to request a look-up again.... Hello Sian, There's a very good program you can download free at http://leedsindexers.co.uk/Internet_Tools.htm for sorting out searches by page and person ID which will give you a very good idea of which people belong together. Regards Anne
Hello, Where is this blue text supposed to appear, please? All I got is a copy of the results page or is this not where I have to copy from? Are you trying to sort out your results when searching for one surname only, without a first name? If you Copy and Paste all the results from the Web page onto Word Pad some extra blue text will appear for each name. Included in this will be- pageId=......... All of one household will be on the same or adjacent pageId. There will also be, for each name, a personId=....... These will be consequetive numbers within one household. Hence the members of each family can be grouped together. I found this by accident whilst trying to save web time with a quick search and store. Bob, in Elloughton.
