    3. Hi Jean and Freda, I have all the records of my grandfather who served in the Boer War from 15 Nov 99 to 7 Oct 02. The papers his recruitment including physical details and previous experience (he was in the Militia at the time of applying). It is availabe from the Public Records Office and if you know the Regiment it should be fairly easy. But I think you have to go to Kew to get it It is certainly worth the effort and and very nice to have the records. Gill Smith In cold and snowy Ontario, Canada

    2. Hi Jonathon and Richard, My wife has LAMPLOUGH / LAMPLUGH / LAMPLEUGH ancestors (spellings seem to have been interchangeable) in two branches of her tree: one lot based in Langtoft and Kilham, the other around Leven. The Jonathon LAMPLEUGH Richard refers to was her 5x GGrandfather. Phillis LAMPLOUGH had three older siblings: Mary (c24 Nov 1745), Sarah (c 21 April 1751) and Jonathon (c 25 Feb 1753) plus two younge ones: Jeremiah (c24 April 1762) and John (c12 July 1768). 2. David Pike
    3. Hello East Yorks List As a new arrival on the list I would like to declare an interest in the BELL family originally of Sculcoates. In particular, my wife's gx2 grandfather was one John Richard BELL, bap. Sculcoates 1806, son of Thomas & Sarah BELL. John was a Cunard Line Captain in the 1850's & 60's. He married a Christina BREMNER from Wick, Caithness. Among their children were: 1) James Richard BELL b. Wick 1841. He was en engineer on the Indian State Railways, and died in Kent in 1913. I know little more about him than that. 2) Thomas Alfred BELL b. Liverpool 1843. He married an Elizabeth HOWARD of Liverpool, became a JP and died in Liverpool in 1923. 3) Christina Sincliar BELL b. Liverpool 1845. She married Henry Griffin WATSON, a merchant, b. Constantinople circa 1849; and lived all her married life in Marseilles where she died in 1946. She is my wife's great grandmother. 4) Sarah Howard BELL, spinster b. Hull circa 1848, d.Liverpool 1926 5) Elizabeth Bremner BELL, spinster b. Hull 1850; d. Liverpool circa 1945. If anyone has any connections with this family I would be be delighted to hear. David Pike Lowestoft

    2. Jean Garforth
    3. Hello to all, I am hoping that there is someone out there who may be able to help with William WHITEHEAD born YORK c1840. He later moved to HULL. He was by trade a Master Boot Maker and somewhere in the depths of my misty mind I seem to recall someone giving me at least 2 WHITEHEADs either from the 1851 Census for YORK ot a Trade Directory.By what I recall, they were Cordwainers or Bootmakers. I am actually trying to trace a different (I think) WHITEHEAD to mine. I have promised an elderly friend that I would try to trace her WHITEHEAD family for her. Any clues or help on this one would be gratefully received because I have no records for YORK. Kind regards. Jean Garforth Researching: HUNNEYBELL - Suffolk & W. He would have his indentures, which he would guard with his life, but I think it unlikely that his apprenticeship was uregistered. Richard Dawson
