Due to the recent appearance of the WILKINSON name I would like to add my contribution in the hope that someone will benefit or that they may possibly be able to help with the progress of my own family tree. William Wilkinson (bc 1783, d 1840) married Anne Lidgit (bc 1777, d 1840). William and Anne both died in the same quarter of 1840 in Gainsborough, Lincs. William and Anne had two children, Anne (b 1804) and Robert ( b 1805, d 1862). Robert Wilkinson was born in Normanby by Spital, Lincs and married an Elizabeth ????? in about 1823. Robert and Elizabeth had two children, Frances (b 1824) and Elizabeth (b 1828, d 1891) Elizabeth Wilkinson (christened in Gainsborough) married George Walker, a Master Mariner of Hull (b 1815, d 1893) in Holy Trinity Church in 1858. Any assistance with this particular Wilkinson line would be very much appreciated. Kind regards and thanks in anticipation, Alan. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Thank you very much Mary.. I have ancestors that sailed the waterways of Yorkshire..in fact a rellie in England just sent me a book Titled " The Maggie Kelly " placed 1851. The characters are fiction, however it is based on facts of the water ways and how these folks had a very hard go of it with the railways taking over the deliveries of goods in those days..I have just started reading it, so thats all I know so far. The author is Mary Dunn...Just wanted to say thanks for sharing the web site..GOOD LUCK to ALL and HAPPY HUNTING, Darlene

To keep the ball rolling here are details of one of my brick walls in Hull. Can't even get a glimpse round it by using the side-gate. :-) HAY On my great-great-grandparents marriage certificate in 1846 it states that Jane HAY's father is George HAY, musician. The marriage was at Holy Trinity, Hull. I found George HAY marrying Mary SWALES in March 1818. Mary died in 1828 and was buried the day before all the children were baptised in Holy Trinity. Presumably she died having given birth as the youngest child being baptised was only days old. I have been unable to find anything about the George and the children in the 18 years between the baptism and Jane's marriage in 1846. I would assume that George married again having a young family to look after or maybe the children were cared for by grandparents or aunts and uncles. If anyone has any connections with any HAY family I should be pleased to hear from them. Also, if anyone comes across a HAY family with a musician as a father anywhere in Yorkshire give me a shout. Thanks Mary Pendlebury Oldham, Lancashire
Hi Folks I have just found the following site which has some good pictures of Hull keels and other sailing boats. http://www.drifnav.plus.com/keel-site/keel-pics/keel-gallery.htm Regards Mary Pendlebury Oldham
OK since a few people have said that they have WILKINSONs in Hull, I am going to list here what I know so far of my WILKINSON line in Hull, I should have more soon with the arrival of a marriage certificate, but maybe all of us can keep each other's e-mail addresses and keep each other in touch as we find new information :-) Right now, I have Harry WILKINSON, b. 1820's in Hull His family lived in the Hedon Road, Marfleet area. He had a brither William, probably others also. His father worked on barges. He was a sailor and in the army, Essex Regiment. He married Gwendoline ANTHONY in Hull in 1944. They lived in West Stockwith Notts, (about 6 miles from gainsborough, lincs), had two children, but Harry left around 1950-54. If any of this rings a bell I would love to hear from you. Kerry

Hello all, I'm trying to track down an elusive ancestor or two thought to be from the Hull area. I'm tracing back some LAVERACK ancestors living, more recently, in the Wakefield area but said to originate in Hull. I have a George Laycock LAVERACK (born c1910), parents unknown but I suspect may have been male LAVERACK = female LAYCOCK. It is said that the LAVERACK parent was involved in starting the Fletcher's Sauce company making "Tiger sauce" but pulled out of the venture fairly early on, before presumably moving to Wakefield area where all of their offspring appear to have lived. Any information gratefully received. My sources are rather sketchy and now sadly, mostly secondhand. Johanna TURNBULL This is my maternal Grandmother. According to the 1901 census she was born in Hull in 1862 or 1863. I haven’t found her on Family Search (LDS) or any other source (yet). Is there SKS who might find her birth from local records in the Hull area? Perhaps her marriage to Henry WHITTAKER which should be about 1878 to 80. I have the family in 1901 in Newcastle (with many errors in the transcription) but nothing yet in 1891. In hope for enlightenment. Graham in Wet Worcestershire
Hi listers I am seeking information on a John Hutchinson who married an Anne Elizabeth Drury on the 30 July 1870 at Bubwith Parish Church. I know that Anne Comes from Spaldington and John possibly from Leeds. They had 2 children George and Harry. By 1875 John had died and Anne remarries a Miles Goodfellow in Hull. George was born in Spaldington and Harry born in Leeds. As John was a man servant it could account for his movements. Any help on this would be appreciated. Alan Happy and a prosperous New Year to all
