    2. Anne Margolis
    3. I have the birthplace of an ancestor in the 1861 census for Flambro' which looks like Belk. His wife and children were all born in Swine. Has anyone any idea what Belk could be please? I can't find it on a map or on the GenUKI list of places in Yorkshire. There is a Balk in West Yorkshire but this seems unlikely. Regards Anne

    1. [ERY] BASSINDALE/LEGGOTT at Whitgift
    2. Hello, I'm new to this list and am researching some of my ancestors who have hopped across the border from the Isle of Axholme. Edward BASSINDALE married Elizabeth LEGGOTT - I am told in Whitgift around 1824. I have been unable to confirm this marriage. The couple had several children in Belton (I of A), the first being bap in 1827. I have an Edward BASSINDALE on the 1881 census born abt 1824 with a birthplace of Belton. I cannot find a baptismal record for him in Belton and wonder if he might have been a son of Edward and Mary, baptised in Whitgift. I would be so grateful for any help with this family. I have a good record of them in Belton, but Edward is very elusive - I have his marriage (to Sarah COOK) which took place at St James, Westminster in 1864, when Edward is described as a soldier living at St Georges Barracks. In 1881 he is a retired captain and farmer living in Surrey. Thanks in advance, Pat (Dover) Researching GELL, BASSINDALE, HOLMES, KILHAM,TUNE, PETTINGER

    1. [ERY] Dawson family
    2. Jane Greenaway
    3. Richard I saw your message on the East Yorks List, the one that listed your interests. Amongst them you had DAWSON in the East Riding. I have a Dawson family in my family tree but, as yet, I don't know much about them. They were a Roger & Susannah who seem to have settled in Beverley in the late 1790s. Susannah was the daughter of my ancestor Jeremiah Smith and was born in Winterton, North Lincs in 1767 - she married Roger there in 1786 but I think he was from Beverley. All of Jeremiah's daughters made fascinating marriages and mainly to Yorkshire men, I haven't got round to looking at Susannah yet. Roger & Susannah are a fairly un-usual coupling of names which makes me inclined to believe the IGI when it has 7 children baptised at St John & St Martin in Beverley. I was going to order the relevant register through our local LDS centre but they are closing down for renovation and have stopped all film ordering. So I'm stuck for now. Have you come across this family ? Jane Greenaway Cheltenham Glos
