    1. [ERY] Freecensus project
    2. Carol Barber
    3. Hello My name is Carol Barber and I am a Co-ordinator for the FreeCensus Project for Yorkshire and Durham, some of you may already know of the project. It involves transcribing the 1891 Census from fiche, therefore access to a fiche reader is necessary, and uploaded to the FreeCensus Website for free for view access. At the moment we have 4 pieces uploaded for Yorkshire and in the very near future more will be added - the URL is http://freecen.rootsweb.com to see the overall project. The software necessary for the project can be downloaded from the website and location is no problem as the fiche will be posted to you by myself. We are looking for volunteers who would like to help with the transcriptions. If you would like further information about what is involved, please contact me at the above address. Regards Carol FreeCensus Co-ordinator for Durham and Yorkshire http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~westridingyorkshire

Betty. Hi Betty The "Oxford Dictionary of Music" says that he was born in Hull in 1823, and died in Ticehurst, East Sussex in 1876, but no other family information. I'm pretty sure you would find something about him in a biographical dictionary - I believe there may be some online somewhere, or perhaps you could try Google. You could also try the multi-volumed Groves Dictionary of Music and Musicians which you may find in a large library. Arthur Kennedy

I had seen these entries on the IGI but I am always cautious about what I find there, and usually like to find other evidence to back it up. Betty.

    3. Hi all, I have just received this fascinating little book from Chris Watson. I ordered it as soon as I saw it announced on this list. It lists some 3000 East Riding men and the places where they lived. Anyone with an interest in the history of East Yorkshire should find it interesting. 2. Elizabeth Davies
    3. I'm searching for LOCKINGs anywhere, anywhen. There were several LOCKING families in the Hull area. 3 Brothers, Edward (b1790), Robert (b1798, married Louisa W ODENATT) and William (b 1800, married Catherine PICKERING) migrated from Lincolnshire early in the 19th century; George LOCKING married Elizabeth AGAR in 1816, and started another Hull dynasty; while Henry Mills LOCKING mar Mary TAMES (nee HORTON) in 1866 and founded another family. Not to mention John Dennison LOCKING(b1844) and his descendants. I would love to hear from any descendants/connections of any of these families, Cheers, Liz Davies (nee LOCKING - a Lincolnshire branch...)
