    3. MessageAnyone researching Atkinsons will find this very useful. ----- Original Message ----- From: Caroline Underwood To: 'PETER ATKINSON' Cc: 'Audrey Berg' Sent: Thursday, March 06, 2003 10:16 AM Subject: ATKINSON notes Hi Peter & Audrey, This is the info I picked up at Beverly RO when I thought ATKINSON was one of my names, in case any is relevant to you. Feel free to pass it on to any researcher if you think it may help them. You probably can make a good guess at the whole household from the folio #. Hope this helps. BTW I would also love to find out how to track down seamans records, please do post it to the list. I had another desperate go at the IGI and trawled through every CLAYTON marriage in Yorkshire (I couldn't use a date) after 6000 or so (Fewer in my possible date range) I found the only CLAYTON who married a Catherine anything, and it happened to be in Sculcoates, a bit of a coincidence. So I am using this as a serious possible until I find out different. So my new surname interest is SPINKS, nominally of Sculcoates & Hull. When I next get to Beverly RO & find out more, I will post it to the list. 3. Hello everyone, Just to add another name to my list: Grantham _ Hull/Sculcoates, and probably Hornsea. I have had quite a few replies to my original message, which I believe have mostly come to me direct. Its just a thought but shouldn't we send replies, unless specifically requested otherwise, via the list so that other listers can read if they want to. I know most messages will be irrelevent but someone might just pick up on something. For instance I replied to one person giving information how to search for British seamens records. If anyone wants to see the replies let me know and I will forward. Peter

    3. Dear Listers, Thanks to some great suggestions and some help by a Lookup volunteer I have my ggrandmothers family located in the 1851 census. But, do to a mouse going bad on me I lost the email on this look up but I did copy down the names and dates of birth. Janet Lovegrove was kind enough to look up some records in the Mapleton(Mappleton) parish records and found some other information on the family which may allow us to get bck further in our research. Now here is where we are, please forgive me if this is rather long. I have done volunteer research for others here in America and I know how bad I hate it when all I get is "Looking for John Jones". 1851 Census Hull (Sculcoates? Not sure as I am not familiar how the census would have be taken but as you will see later Sculcoates figures into the mix.) Mary Ann Simpson, born, Mappleton, 1807 (Her husband, George, is dead by now as a note in family records says that he died while Dorcus was a baby) Jane Simpson, born Hull Sculcoates, 1829 George P. (Pattison) Simpson, born 1834, Ditto Elizabeth Simpson, born 1839, Ditto Caroline Simpson, born, 1841, Ditto Dorcus Simpson(My Ggrandmother), born 1846, Ditto. >From notes left by earlier family members, Dorcus stated that Mary (Polly) married a Coates, Nan married a Baker. Jane married a Dixon and stayed in England. She said nothing about Elizabeth who is listed in the 1851 census, could it be that one of thgirls above was this Elizabeth? Since it states that Jane stayed in England does that mean that all the other siblings came to America. We can account for Dorcus Caroline and their mother Mary Ann here in America. We also think we have found George Jr here in the 1856 census for Scott Co. Iowa which also shows Mary Ann Simson(Simpson), Caroline, and Dorcus. It also shows for George that he had been in Iowa for a year and the others had not been there quite a year. Dorcus' notes says they "Came to America June 1854" and this census was more than likely taken in 1855 for 1856. I have a baptism for Mary Ann Platts of 1807 Mappleton to Doce(y) and John Platts given to me by Janet. with several other Platts that she thought might be siblings. She also found some Pattinson who had a daughter baptized by the name of Doce. Are these meaningful, I know this was a pattern in America of giving children a mothers maiden name mostly by those of English and Wales ancestory. Well, there you have my story, jump in anywhere if you have some ideas or connections. Leon P.S. We all have our problems but being from Texas is not one of mine.

    3. I have just added a new page to my website, under the "Other Transcripts" button on my home page, covering a transcript of the 1841 census for Nafferton. See url in my signature. (Those who have visited my site before will probably notice that the url has changed, but don't worry as the old url will still work.) Please be advised that some of the entries were almost impossible to decipher, and these are indicated with question marks, which also mark entries that I could not be 100% sure of. Besides, it is always advisable to check the source document for your own peace of mind. 3. Hi Caroline, I am afraid I can find no sign of a Catherine COOK(E) in the 1851 indexes. I have checked HOLY TRINITY1,2,&3, EAST SCULCOATES, WEST SCULCOATES, SUTTON on HULL & District and HEDON, DRYPOOL & District. These are the areas that cover the Hull areas. Kind regards. Jean Garforth.

    3. Hello Kathryne, That was a good try as one of my Wilkinson families lived 5 minutes walk from St. Paul's St. ! I can find no connection though. There were a lot of Wilkinson's in the Sculcoates area. Ken.
