    3. Harold, I can find 3 Charles Jennison on the 1851 Census Index in the Driffield area ( near Great Kelk): Ref: HO107 Piece 2366 Folio 165 (Hutton Cranswick) Charles Jennison age 3 born Cranswick Ref: HO107 Piece 2366 Folio 174 verso (Hutton Cranswick) Charles Jennison age 2 born Hutton Ref: HO107 Piece 2366 Folio 241 verso (Great Driffield) Charles Jennison age 20 born Great Driffield None seem to match your date of birth of 1838, but the one you want may be elsewhere. Where do you expect him to be in 1851? 3. Check out the Genuki pages for Yorkshire as there were seats of nobilty listed taken from the White's1840 trade directory... I had a book which I photocopied some of the longer lists and sent to a group of about 25 Aussies who transcribed them and they are now somewhere in the Yorkshire pages Cheers Caroline ----- Original Message ----- From: <Whsprwill@aol.com> To: <ENG-EAST-YORKS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 08, 2003 4:49 PM Subject: [ERY] re: MINOR LANDHOLDERS IN DOMESDAY > Good day! :) > > Does anyone know of a good, accessible edition of the Domesday book that > includes "minor" landholders and/or lordships. 1. Re: [ERY] re: MINOR LANDHOLDERS IN DOMESDAY
    2. Hi! For Christmas 2002 my son gave me "Domesday Book" (A complete translation) published by Penguin (hardback). ISBN 0-14-100523-8 Try www.penguin.co.uk ? My late husband has ancestors who were minor landholders. The index is to place names so tracking down individuals requires persistence but most counties list landholders at/near the beginning of the section. Good luck! Best regards Pat Oliver

    1. [ERY] re: MINOR LANDHOLDERS IN DOMESDAY
    2. Good day! :) Does anyone know of a good, accessible edition of the Domesday book that includes "minor" landholders and/or lordships. Most editions/translations seem only to include what they call "major" landholders. I've checked quite a few versions out at my local library and, believe me, if you're interested in doing Domesday research, you'll want to do that. Each of them contained varying deegrees of detail...some had better explainations than others...some showed ONLY one major landholder, while other versions showed the Barons and all others below them, who were in some way responsible or in charge of that piece of land, all the way down to stating, for example, 4 sections held in lordships. what i'm looking for is to see, in writing, who these Lords were (their names). i happen to know that the family i'm researching held land in Lordship under several major landholders, in several different locations to the extent that they were allowed to will that land to their heirs, who, to this day, still have a vested interest in some of it. i can't, however, find a translation/edition detailed enough to include that information, so that i might provide the family written proof (just to have) of the date that land was first given them. it's needless to say i don't have access to the original document, nor the education to read it if i did. Any help would be appreciated. :) Best Regards, P. Wiedman, geneologist

    1. [ERY] 1851 census look up request - Driffield
    2. Moira Forde
    3. Is there anybody who would be willing and able to look at the 1851 census for Driffield for my CONNELL /O'CONNELL (and possible other variants!) family? I would be *SO* grateful, as I have no access to the 1851 census near to me. I am looking for: William Connell (possibly O'Connell), born about 1831 and so aged about 20, his wife Rachel and their son John (possibly) aged about 1. There may have been other children I don't know about. John was born in Driffield and aged 10 in the 1861 census for Pickering (William and Rachel were hiding under the name of CANEL!!) I know about the 1861 census entry because an intrepid researcher on this list (to whom my thanks are due publicly - lets hear it for Wendy!!) found them for me. (They're in the 1881 as CORNELL in Beverley, and O'CONNELL in 1891). I haven't yet looked for William in the 1901 census, as he would have been aged about 70. No luck yet in finding William and Rachel's marriage in about 1850, either, but that's another story ... best wishes, Moira Christchurch, Dorset Researching FORD and O'CONNELL/CONNELL, Beverley and Driffield, Yorks; WHITE in Horncastle, Lincs.
