    1. Sculcoates/Botham Family
    2. Simone Moore
    3. Fellow Researchers: I am trying to find information regarding family by the surname of Botham that lived in Sculcoates, East Riding of Yorkshire, during the 1840s. The husband's name was Richard Botham and his wife was Frances (Fanny) Drakes. They were married in 1841 in Lincoln, Lincolnshire. The marriage lists his father as Matthew Botham and her father as Thomas Drakes. Richard's residence is listed as Broadgate and I believe Fanny's was either Waterride South, Watemide South, or Watwide South. It is difficult to make out. The church is listed as Parish Church. Does anyone know what affiliation that would have been? In 1845 they had my great great grandfather George Botham. It is here that I find the district of Sculcoates and the county of East Riding of Yorkshire listed in his birth location info. In 1849 there was another son born, Matthew Botham with the same birth location info. Their other children's names were Richard, William, Mary, and I believe Thomas. The family came to America in the 1860s and apparently spent some time in Canada and eventually wound up in Iowa. There were probably some other places that I don't know about. I know that George Botham lived in Minnesota in the 1880s. After that I cannot find any trace of him. I apologize for any misuse of the words county or district. I am learning little by little about the layout of England. It makes it difficult since some of these places like Sculcoates no longer exist. At least, that's what the lady at the GRO told me. BTW was Sculcoates close to another place by the name of Hull? Any information would be appreciated. Thank you all!

    3. Hi Mary Lou, My 1851 Census Disc does not give addresses or occupations or relationship to head of family. HO107/2363 Folio No.0966v shows the following all living in Hull Holy Trinity:- Forename Surname Age Birthplace Page Order Anthony Scaife 10 Hull 146765 John Scaife 17 Hull 146766 Mary Scaife 40 Hull 146767 Emma Scaife 4 Hull 146768 Joseph Coulson Scaife 19 Manchester 146769 Edwin Scaife 14 Hull 146770 Thomas Scaife 42 Breighton 146771 William Scaife 15 Hull 146772 Eliza Scaife 6 Hull 146773 Thomas Scaife 18 Hull 146774 Mary Scaife 13 Hull 146775 This could be all one family as they are all listed in succession (Page Order). I see there is a Joseph Coulson Scaife, which could point to his mother (Mary) being a COULSON before she was married. ( My family name is COULSON, but we originated in N.R.Yorkshire, but you never know, there be some connection somewhere along the line!) Hope this will be of some help to you sorting out your SCAIFE family. Cheers, Don.

    1. Mary Ann(Polly) and Emily RYMER-1891 Census look-up please
    2. David
    3. Hello List, In 1881 both Mary Ann (Polly) RYMER (born Northallerton 1870) and her sister Emily RYMER (born Northallerton 1872) were living with their father, Charles, and other siblings at 4, Georges Place, Hull. I have previously sought help from the List to find Charles (born Northallerton 1830) but he was not to be found. Perhaps SKS would be prepared to look in the 1891 Census for Mary Ann (Polly) and EMILY, both of whom were single in 1881 and I have not been able to find a marriage for either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. David. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Version: 7.0.344 / Virus Database: 267.11.13/126 - Release Date: 09/10/05

My 3 x gt grandfather Peter Russel HUTCHINSON is also in residence at the address. Oddly enough, Ralph has had his name entered as Ralph Hutchinson PINFIELD. I have no idea why that name should appear. His children are listed as just HUTCHINSON. Anyway, Ralph is the head and widow and is a freehold farmer of 256 acres. I have done a search on Muston Hall and found very little, but one interesting thing I did find was that it was once owned by the RUSSELL family. Ralph Hutchinson’s father, William, married Ann RUSSELL in 1771, also in Hunmanby. Quite a spooky little link at this early stage.
