Hi Guys, Very sorry about the last email. it was supposed to go to Victor only. ttfn Trish
Thanks, I look forward to receiving those STEPHENSON details. Peter
Hi Victor. I certainly did enjoy my trip although I had to cut it short as short notice. I had some phone calls from George and it seems shortly before I left Jamie (middle son) started helping himself to our money and to his elder brother Andrew's money too. All this unfolded whilst I was in Bridlington after meeting up with you. Turns out George went to do some shopping and the credit card was refused. Phone calls ensued and he had maxed it out.... We are still tallying final figures but it would be in the region of 9-12K. He was "removed" from the house naturally enough before I got home, locks changed etc and since my return we've had to get a mortgage to cover the debt, change passwords etc. George couldn't do any of this whilst I was away as he's not 'au fait' with the internet and even had to beg the bank to stop my credit card. Luckily I had taken a fair bit of cash with me and my family were brilliant re accommodation. We ended up going back to Hull (totally unrelated) a Jo decided she didn't like Whitby and we never even parked the car!! We did get to Heartbeat country and I managed to get to Ainderby Steeple where my BEARPARK's originated from so that was good and York was the same story as Whitby. We were supposed to be going to Grimsby, stopping at Scunthorpe at some friends of Jo's and after demanding that she ring them (she kept saying they'd be home as they have a mushroom farm) she did ring and yes you guess it - they were on holidays!!! By that time I was at the end of my rope. I'd had enough. It was raining in the Lake District and Scotland so she didn't want to go there and I said if she didn't like Whitby then no way would she like Blackpool so we didn't go there either. We didn't go to Grimsby as Jo didn't have the right information she needed and I made it quite clear that there wasn't any point unless she knew where she was going. So after leaving York we headed for Hull (i just wanted a road our of York....) and stumbled across the Hull road so we went back there, stayed with an aunt, rang my cousin in Luton so see if we could bring everything forward. Drove down to Luton staying with my cousin, made arrangements to leave the car at Luton, left from Heathrow and got home. And boy was I glad to get home. So mixed feelings really. I was very glad to see Aunty Barbara in Luton as she is 84 and told me heaps once we got her going. Got some great photos which I hadn't seen before.Sad to say goodbye though as I don't know when I'll get back. Because of what Jamie did it might take years now. Anyway on to family history. My Dixon's were from Elloughton originally and it was seem George moved to Bridlington sometime around the 1830's as he married in 1833 in Brid. to one Ellen (aka Eleanor DENNIS. Sadly George quite young. I am now in touch with a 'cousin" thanks to Genesreunited who comes from one of George's brothers. The search for George goes on in 1841 and possible 1851. My STEPHENSON's were originally from Nafferton and Kilham and moved to Hull about 1840. Henry is my guy and he settled in the Drypool area where he was a grocer for the rest of his life dying about 1910 (from memory) He is buried in Hedon Road cemetery along wife Elizabeth (ROW) and there is a headstone (long story - another time) but I couldn't find it....... They had several kids:- Walter, Ada, Emma (this one must have died), Elizabeth, Emma, John, Alice, Martha, Bertha from 1865 to 1883. Do you have death dates for your guys. I will have a look at the burial register entries I have noted down. They might be in Hedon Road...??? Needless to say I am no further on with those transcriptions. I wish I had more time..... that is my enemy at the moment - indeed nearly always. There is always someone demanding my time. I should put even 30 minutes aside each day to do those. I will make the effort. So, that's about it..... some good news some bad. How's things going with you? It was lovely to meet up with your again. We'll have to do it again on your next trip here if you are coming this way. Look forward to hearing all your news when you have time. Take care for now. Greetings from a sunny, (but for how long?), Cornwall. Hello Trish, The EYFHS (East Yorkshire Family History Society) have transcribed 1000 of the MIs in the Hedon Road Cemetery and have the booklet for sale at a very reasonable price. For anyone who isn't a member, please visit their site: _www.eyfhs.org.uk_ (http://www.eyfhs.org.uk) . For anyone with East Riding roots I can highly recommend membership. I have met many 'cousins' and learned a lot through their pages. Hellen/Ellen STEPHENSON married James RANK and she is buried with her husband and his 1st wife whose maiden name was Mary PARROTT. There are 4 RANK family graves situated side by side and another one for Emily Reta RANK in another part of the cemertery. Baron J. Arthur died in Winchester, Hampshire, so I presume he is buried there, unless, having died in relatively modern times, (1972), his grave hasn't been included in the EYFHS publication. Wishing everyone a good day - mine will be super - any minute now I have cousins arriving from East Yorkshire with suitcases brimming with photographs and documents, what better day could anyone wish for? Peter Fewson

Thanks very much Chris, That narrows things down a bit. Hi Listers, I'm trying to track down the births of Mary Watson BUTLER b c1825, Hannah BUTLER b c1825 and Anna BUTLER b c1828 (Hannah and Anna could be the same person but I realy don't know for sure) Daughters of Thomas BUTLER b c1799 Holme Yorks and Hannah b c1798 Swanland nr Hull Yorks The family seem to have lived mostly in Swanland near North Ferriby Any help or advice greatly appreciated. Mike
Hi Listers, I'm trying to track down the marriage of Thomas BUTLER b c1799 Holme Yorks and Hannah b c1798 Swanland nr Hull Yorks The first child I know of is Mary Watson BUTLER b c1825 I should think if they married it would have been between 1816/7 and 1826 and might have been in either Swanland, North Ferriby or Kirkella (one of their children married in Kirkella whilst living in Swanland) Any help or advice greatly appreciated. Mike
Hi Peter, Thanks for that. The RANKs certainly seem to be fairly prolific in Holderness. Some great names too: how about Newyear RANK chr 1 Jan 1799? Or William Bacchus RANK b 17 Nov 1803? Taking your points as you numbered them: 1. I'd taken Alice's approx DoB from the census, hence the slight difference? 2. The name Frank STEPHENSON certainly sounds right. It crops up again in the next generation as one of (H)Ellen's nephew's through her brother William. 3. The details of (H)Ellen's death tally. She was at 91 Marlborough Ave in the 1901 census 4. Don't think either of your William STEPHENSONs are mine unfortunately. Ellen's brother was b 28 Nov 1831 in Routh. and m Jane Elizabeth GOFORTH (b 10 Jan 1858) in Beverley in 1877. When I have a little more time I'll post further details of the STEPHENSON line to see if it sparks any more connections. David Brown Lancashire [email protected]

Hi Everyone. I've just caught onto this thread and was hoping that I might be able to contribute as I have trawled through many years of Hedon Road Burial Register and would love to have heaps of time to transcribe them but sadly I don't. I can only do what I can when I can. I have STEPHENSON's from Drypool (from about 1840ish, before that Nafferton and Kilham) and so have noted many of them on the off chance that one day I might be able to slot them in somewhere. . I've looked for Hellen/Ellen and don't have a notation for her. If you have some other names I would certainly be happy to look for them but do need death dates. I have 5 families from that area of Hull and the other names are:- ROBERTS ROW WRIGHT CHADWICK (from 1900 onwards) but make a note of any of "my" names - just in case. They include:- DOBBS, BEARPARK, MORTON, TAYLOR, HODGKINSON, DIXON, DENNIS, BURKITT (various spellings) and LADLEY amongst the main lines but many other peripherals. I've found people from West Hull being buried there so one never knows.... ttfn Trish At 09:40 AM 10/25/2005, [email protected] wrote: >Hi David, > >I've found a couple of minutes. > >(1) I have James' and Ellen's/Hellen's 1st child, Alice Jane born 1862? > >(2) You gave me 5 new children, but I have only just started building this >tree - they also had Charles (b.1866) and Frank Stephenson (b.1868) - if >there >is no sighn of them later. > >(3) In your correspondence to this list dated 2001, you refer to Ellen >being called Hellen in the 1881 census. Hi Trish Hope you enjoyed your visit to your homeland and found what you had been looking for. I note you have DIXON on your list but don't recall having asked you about this before. DIXON and STEPHENSON are both on my list. What are your DIXON names? This is a common name so I will be surprised if there is a link between ours. I have Sarah Ann STEPHENSON born in Drypool in 1844. She was the daughter of Fewson STEPHENSON and Jane. Regards Victor On 25 Oct 2005 at 12:11, trish michael wrote: > Hi Everyone. Hi all Eng-East-Yorks Listers Please is there any one researching Burns in Hull from the 1800. Regards Harold
Hi David, I've found a couple of minutes. (1) I have James' and Ellen's/Hellen's 1st child, Alice Jane born 1862? (2) You gave me 5 new children, but I have only just started building this tree - they also had Charles (b.1866) and Frank Stephenson (b.1868) - if there is no sighn of them later. (3) In your correspondence to this list dated 2001, you refer to Ellen being called Hellen in the 1881 census. She is also Hellen on her grave . She died 30 Mar 1907 at Malbro' Ave., Hull aged 74. Buried 2 Apr 1907. She is buried in the Hedon Rd. Cemetery ref. EYFHS booklet - MI No.194. Details taken from her grave and Drypool PRs. (4) You mentioned that she had a brother William. I have several STEPHENSONs in my databank including William STEPHENSON, b. Routh 1816, baptised 16 May 1816 at Routh, s/o Edward STEPHENSON and Sarah FEWSON. Also, Wm. b.1855 at Routh s/o Wm. STEPHENSON and Mary BARR. He married Sarah Jane SMITH --- Are they yours? Perhaps sometime you could let me have Ellen's/Hellen's ancestry and anything on the decendants. I have gathered a considerable amount, but there are always gaps - I have taken the RANKs back to ca.1669 and discovered I am linked to them through marriage to different families 6 times. My ambition is to discover that I am related to every family in the Holderness :-) Peter Fewson
Hi, I was hoping you might still be around! I have uploaded some of your correspondence on this subject from the Archives - 2001and have already entered some of your notes on my database. I will get back to you in a few days time - I have cousins from the East Riding visiting - to learn their family history. Peter Fewson in Cornwall.

Hello Peter, My wife is the gg niece of Ellen STEPHENSON (b 12 Jan 1834) who married James RANK (d 24 Oct 1974). As far as I have been able to trace (and I haven't done a great deal on this line yet) they had 8 children: Alice (b1863) Frederick (ditto - twins?) William Henry (b1864) Ada (b1866) Clara (b 1871) Tom W (b1872) Sarah Ann (b1874) Annie (b1875) I've got a fair amount on the STEPHENSON line both forward and back from there.
