    3. I wonder if anyone has access to the parish records for SCARBOROUGH. I have found a marriage on the IGI for a Wingfield Richard WILLIS and Ann BIELBY in Scarborough on 20th August 1829 and would be grateful for a look up. I don't suppose it will give me any more information but it is worth asking. I am trying to trace my 3x great grandfather and all I know is that on the census records he gives his birthplace as Scarborough and his wife Ann's as Bridlington and on his son's marriage certificate it gives his occupation as mariner. 1. HARDERN family
    2. Fiona McNicol
    3. I am researching the family of George HARDERN who moved to the Hull area in approx. 1870. He was married to Alice (GRATTON) and already had 2 children who had been born in Congleton (a 3rd had died at the age of 3 weeks). Two further children were born in the Hull area, neither lived until adulthood. When Alice died he married her sister Jane GRATTON. The remaining children were: George Gratton HARDERN who married locally and had children. Mary-Jane HARDERN (my g-grandmother) married the lodger Hans Peter HANSEN and moved to Ashbourne in Derbyshire. Anything on this family would be appreciated. 3. Hi Valerie and List, Thankyou for pointing me in the right direction re collecting more information. I shall certainly follow through. I think you are quite right Valerie as to the Northallerton and Beverley references, also thankyou for the lead to Ryedale Family History Site... I also think The Borthwick may cast some light on other aspects of the research. I say this as I would like to know where Isaac Elliot procured his land from. He had 131 Acres in Slingsby and his sister had at least another two hundred Acres another probable brother also held land...family lore dictates that it was given for services rendered. 1. Interest List East Yorkshire...
    2. Josephine Laxton
    3. Hello List I have not posted my interest List for some time and there are now additions to the previous List ELLIOT(T)S associated with Castle Howard. Isaac Elliot, Head Gamekeeper, Castle Howard, born Lanercost/Cumbria, came down to Yorkshire around 1800 to Castle Howard, along with other family members and associated families.... There are still family members from our line employed there...Bulmer, Slingsby, Acklam, Terrington, Henderskelfe and surrounding areas... Ripon, Leeds and Knaresborough..Elliot(t) is my father's line. James Ernest Elliott, brother of my grandfather, Herbert Jackson Elliott, emigrated to the U.S.A after 1901. He was a Rose grower and Sweetpea specialist...(I have not yet located this James on any of the American censuses), still looking... It was this brother that Jane Elizabeth DUNN nee~ Elliott; was visiting when she drowned on the 'Empress of Ireland' in 1914 DUNN Malton.. DAVIDSON, Slingsby. Born Scotland... GASCOYNE, Huddersfield, Acklam, Bulmer, Scrayingham, Kirby Moorside... MILNER, Settrington, and surrounds... COULTAS, Wintringham, Sherburn JACKSON, Kirby Moorside? SPENCEL(E)Y, Appleton Le Street. SHORT Kilnwhich Cast, Ripon. JAMES, Leeds THACKERAY, East Acklam Also interested in a line of CLARKSONS, namely Thomas and his sister and mother, both Elizabeths, who lived in East Acklam in the mid 1800's...Thomas was a Cordwainer by trade. If anyone is researching any of the above or has any knowledge of them, I would be delighted to hear from you. Kindest regards, Josephine, Ontario, Canada.
