    3. Hi Peter Have you researched Paulina WING's family at all? I have been collecting information on all the different WING families from Hull, and the surrounding townships, to see whether any fit into my own family. I don't believe Paulina's does but would be interested to know if the following is correct: 1 John Wing b: 1805 in Dunnington, Yorkshire, England . +Paulina Fewson b: 1809 in Halsham, Yorkshire, England ........ 2 James Wing b: 5 May 1830 in South Frodingham, Yorkshire, England ............ +Annie Sarah Hayes b: 1837 in Chelsea, London, Middlesex, England ........ 2 Eliza Wing b: 1832 in Patrington, Yorkshire, England ............ +Thomas Charlton b: 1831 in Easington, Yorkshire, England ........ 2 Mary Wing b: 1835 in Patrington, Yorkshire, England ........ 2 Emily Wing b: 1837 in Patrington, Yorkshire, England ............ +Robert Richardson b: 1847 in Newcastle, Northumberland, England ........ 2 Sarah Jane Wing b: 1839 in Patrington, Yorkshire, England ........ 2 Thomas Wing b: 1843 in Patrington, Yorkshire, England Regards Barbara Thamm > Subject: Re: [ERY] Hull cholera > From: [email protected] > Date: Wed, 23 Nov 2005 00:32:59 EST > To: [email protected] > >Hello Linda, > >My gt. gt. aunt, Paulina WING nee FEWSON died in similar circumstances in >one of the then, worst slums in Hull. 2. Hello Barbara, Yes, that is about what I have, except Annie Sarah HAYES b. 9 Jul 1834, bap. 3 Aug 1834 (not 1837) and one other date out by one year, but either you or I may have it right. I do have John's ancestry back to a Joseph who married in 1734 with several of Joseph's descendants and all my notes. Would you like me to send you a copy off list? Peter

    2. Newsdesk
    3. Hello all, Have you looked at the Yorkshire Parish Register site recently? http://www.yorkshireparishregisters.com. We have some new CDs and printed registers which would make good Christmas presents - or treat yourself! Our latest CDs cover the parishes of Whitby, Darton and Sandal Magna. Our Masham Register series has been completed by Masham Vol. 3 which covers 1801-1837. While stocktaking we have found a box of the Bowes Parish Register which we thought had sold out in printed format. We are starting to publish some of our larger out-of print registers in CD format and the parish of Rothwell will be published in January or February. If you have an aversion to ordering on-line, you can submit a postal application to: Publication Sales Yorkshire Archaeological Society Parish Register Section 23 Clarendon Road LEEDS LS2 9NZ If you would like to join the Parish Register Section, membership costs £18 per annum or £21 overseas rate. Members get reduced rates on registers , fiche and CDs and receive the latest register to be published ( usually in late summer). Mary http://www.yorkshireparishregisters.com

    3. Thanks to Barbara for finding my fellow in '51. That certainly looks like him, although now I am even more confused! He had two children born in '53 and '56 before he married into my family in '60. So if he was a widower in '51 he must have had another marriage in the meantime! They certainly went through spouses back then, didn't they? Thanks again! Mary Lou

    3. Hello everyone, I watched a new TV series on channel 4:- '' NOT FORGOTTEN '' about Britains 37,500 war memorials. The program started in HULL where there are street memorials. (I assume many may have been destroyed in WW2). I am researching Lance Corporal WILLIAM HARE 1st Bn East Yorks Reg (b. 30 June 1886 Hull) killed in action Somme 1 July 1916. He was injured at the battle of the Aisne Sept 1914 and must have been sent home to recover, as he married EDITH GRANTHAM on 6 Mar 1915. His residence at time of marriage was 206 Bean Street (Sculcoates ?). I know he is mentioned on the Thiepval monument and I believe he is also named in Beverley Minster (EYR remembrance plaques)(I still have to make the visit). I would be interested if anyone knows if he is mentioned on any Hull memorial, and this may be in the Bean St area. Peter

    2. Hello Linda, My gt. gt. aunt, Paulina WING nee FEWSON died in similar circumstances in one of the then, worst slums in Hull. She had Smallpox which developed after being vaccinated against it. Knowing that it was a terminal illness, she obviously removed herself from her children, husband and neighbours in Patrington and lived her remaining weeks/days in the home of an extremely poor widow in Wincomlee who obviosly nursed her during her remaining days. Paulina died in 1844, but none of her family caught the disease. I have tried, unsuccesfully to find out how long her nurse lived. This is where the awfulness of conditions in those days strikes home. Peter Fewson

    3. Hello List, I receive emails from both this list and Sheffield List. Linda when you mention a John Askam of Market Place are you referring to Hull? The reason why I ask is that we also have Askams in our family who were grocers, but they resided in Sheffield...my uncle James Dixon married an Alice Askam in May 1921 in Sheffield, her father was an Albert Askam, a grocer and Cutler...interesting coincidence if nothing else. He was born in 1863, but I do not know where, his wife's name was Emily... not sure this has anything to do with your Askams, but I believe that some of the Sheffield Askams were originally from Hull. Regards, Josephine, Ontario, Canada. p.s just remember that a census is a date out of time, an isolated incident of one day. John Askam may only have been visiting the place where he died...I think a much clearer answer would be gained if you sent for his death certificate. It usually tells you who is present at the death, the cause of death, and sometimes the relationship of the person who reported the death.... It would also verify that this is the correct John Askam.. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda MacDonald" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, November 22, 2005 6:57 PM Subject: [ERY] Hull cholera > Hello list, > I wondered if anyone had any ideas about the following. > > John Askam was a grocer who had a shop in Market Place and lived above it.
