    3. Paul, A long shot I know but did your Jewitts have waterways connections? I have a Charles Jewitt who married a Mary Rea in Malton in 1799. I know not where Charles was born (it doesn't appear to be Malton) but he died there in 1845 aged 72 (so born circa 1873), by which time he had taken to calling himself Capt. Charles Jewitt. The River Derwent flows down from Malton to The Ouse and Blacktoft (where your Jewitts were from) is on the Ouse- told you is was a long shot!!Any thoughts? David Drake [email protected] wrote: Hi Deborah and Anna Ann JEWITT and Thomas UNDERWOOD were my 2xGGrandparents and I am directly descended from their 5th son William UNDERWOOD. Ann JEWITT was the daughter of Edward JEWITT and Elizabeth HAIGH who were married on 6 December 1757 at Howden. They had 4 sons - Joseph, Thomas, Edward and William and 1 daughter Ann between 1759 and 1766. Edward died in 1777 and Elizabeth then married John MONKS on July 2, 1778 at Blacktoft. I have a fair amount of additional information including Edward JEWITT's will of 1777 as well as extensive information on the UNDERWOOD line including Jewitt UNDERWOD and his descendants. 1. JACKSON / HEWSON of Market Weighton
    2. Raymond Lapp
    3. Hello, Is there anyone else researching either of these name in the Market Weighton area? I have a Robert JACKSON (born 1804 in Market Weighton) who married Hannah WILSON in 1823 in Westow. This couple eventually moved to Canada. Robert's parents were Robert JACKSON (b. abt 1772) and Anne HEWSON (b. abt 1779), both of Market Weighton. Robert was listed as the Parish Clerk in the 1841 and 1851 censuses. Their children were: John (1797), Richard (1799), Sarah (1802), Robert (1804), Elizabeth (1806), James (1808), Mary (1810), William (1813), Elizabeth (1815), Henry (1817) and Frances (1820). Robert JACKSON died 1856 in Market Weighton, and I assume that his wife Ann died roughly around the same time. If there is anyone who know of either of these JACKSON or HEWSON families, I would love to hear more. Have just had the good fortune to meet up with new cousins on this side of the pond (Ontario, Canada) and was pleasantly surprised to find that my Jewitt ancestors came over here in the mid 1840's from Yorkshire - George JEWITT born 1762 Howden married in 1784 Sarah CARR. Their children were born from 1785 - 1805 (ten children total) in Kilpin, Saltmarsh (spelling??) and Laxton - there is also reference to North Cave, Broomfleet and South Cave. I just wanted to pass on these names for now in case there are any new friends and cousins on this list. I look forward to postings from this list - I'm always curious as to what specific areas were like during the time frames that my ancestors were there - what the area is like now - etc. If anyone recognizes Grandfather George & Grannie Sarah, drop me a line and say hello. There is also a map showing the location of all the villages that have disappeared. This is a brief description about this coastline The coastline of Holderness is eroding at around 2m per year. The erosion occurs mainly during storms and tidal surges and a loss of 6m was recorded over two days at Barmston in October 1967. It is estimated that about 76,450,00 cubic metres of material have been lost from the Holderness coast in 100 years (Valentin, 1954) . Only 3% of this material is deposited at Spurn Point, the remainder is deposited in deeper water offshore or is carried across the mouth of the Humber to be deposited within the estuary itself or on the North Lincolnshire coast. Erosion increases as one moves southward. To the lister who asked about Whitby. I don't think there is any need to worry about that town disappearing as it is further north and not in the Holderness area besides the ground conditions there is much firmer. 3. Harold, From the error message you are getting, I suspect that your email software is set to always request a 'receipt', that is, a return email saying that your email was received. However, these responses perhaps need human permission and this is not really practical in a list server. Regardless of the reason, the list server is set to simply respond with the noted error message. You perhaps need to turn this feature off and initiate it only for emails that really do need to be receipted. Further, this message got through so what did you change?? Good hunting.
